Any experience with MerkleCamera in Toronto, Ontario?

Hey gang,

I realize the sticky above is meant to cover the US but what about Canada?

Who are the authorized dealers?

I ask, specifically, if any one of my fellow Canadians has had dealings with Merkle Camera in Toronto.

Right now they have the 100B for $3749 CDN. That is a phenomenal price but only for "Boxing Week."

They'll even accept a deposit to hold that price until I can purchase my two DVX100Bs in late March.

Wahooo! Now to get the money together.

So. Should I cut and run or gather my deposit for my shiny new 100Bs?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

sincerely,

ian

I don't know too much about Merkle Camera, but I would try Henry's. I believe they have the 100B around the same price (its a "boxing week" special as well) Um, I believe Vistek and Henrys are the only major camera shops in Canada (Dunno if they're authorized dealers, though I'd presume) You should also try Lorne Lapham Camera and Leo's Camera Supply (Both located in B.C.)

-Good Luck!

I did a search and discovered that Henrys does not have their special price on the 100B anymore. The DvShop in Toronto has it at $4299.99 With a 2 Year extended warranty (150 Dollar Value) But with the awsome price that Merkle has it at, I'd lean towards the 3749 dollar camera. Hope it works out fer ya! Right now im searching for a dvx100 or 100a. Hoping to purchase it by march too.

:D

Just an update.

Merkle is looking at about 10% deposit. Unfortunately, this close to "post-Christmas" that's asking a bit right now.

The good thing is with at least three assumed authorized dealers in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area in case you were wondering) Vistek, DVShop & Merkle I might be able to play them off each other to get the price as close to that as I can in March. They should move some from the high price of $4300 CDN if they want a guaranteed minimum $8000 sale. I had that experience when I was looking at a Canon Optura Xi on Yonge Street (downtown Toronto) and of the three shops I went to I wound up dropping the, at that time, price from $1500 to $1250 just by walking and talking.

Eon42. All the best with your purchase.

sincerely,

Hi
I bought my DVX 10 from Merkle and then sold my DVX100 and bought the 100A from merkle. They are ok. Dont talk to NICK or MO. They will give you the higfhest price. I bought my XL1 in 1999 from Merkle also. Talk to the Chinese guy ....I have forgotten his name. He will give you the best advise also. I bought some stuff from vistek and Dv Shop also. The guy at DV Shop is the best but not the price. I bought my steady tracker , the matt box and the boom mic from dvshop. these were'nt available at merkle.

Vistek guys are the rudest and most expensive. I still spent around 10000 with vistek , poor customer service. Not happy.

Talk to the skinny chinese guy at merkle. You will be ok.

Hope this helps.

Don't have much experience with Merkle and am not a fan of Vistek. One thing to note that Henrys has a price match guarantee. even thought the Boxing Week sale is over at Henrys they still may match Merkle and i give them an A for service.

I did a lot of shopping around at Vistek, Henry's and DVshop when I bought my 100b in November. I've never heard of Merkle. I eventually settled on Henry's after playing them and Vistek off of eachother. If you buy more than just the camera, both Vistek and Henry's will cut you a deal. We got 10 of the new panasonic DVC professional tapes (14.99 each) and two extra batteries ($179 each) from Henry's. I guess just don't be afraid to ask for a deal. In terms of insurance, the DVshop offer is a great one. Henry's is $450 for two years of coverage!

I still think you're better off ordering through the internet from B&H or someone. You don't pay the 8% GST (if you take expedited shipment option, you may not have to pay PST as well) there are no customs charges, you get the $200 back and the US dollar is not that much stronger.

I'll second going through Linden's in Kingston. I bought my original DVX from them, ordered 3 of the 100a from them for St. Lawrence College and just put together another 2 100b for St. Lawrence College and Linden's have been great. I've been dealing with John there for 2 years and I always get great pricing.

If you're in Toronto, I highly recommend DV SHOP. Terry is a great guy, and his price in the MQ tapes is the cheapest I've seen in Canada.

Good luck,

Justin

Isn't that's funny jchenier . When I bought mine I remember John telling me St Lawerance College had bought some . This was my first camera and John was and still is very helpful .
I was in Kingston on Tues at Old Fort Henry and had some recording issues with the DVX . So I stopped in to see John ..he looked at it gave it a quick look over etc
If the problem persist he said ...call me and you can use the rental so you can finish your short ..Man that is service ..can't say enough of these guys.

I had some issues with the audio on my camera and had to have it sent to Panasonic for servicing 3 times. Linden's were great! I had their loaner DVX for almost 2 months until mine was fixed. In the end, Panasonic couldn't replicate the problem so ended up replacing the entire audio guts. You can't better customer service than Linden's.

Arielman, what problems were you having with your camera?

yeah, the border will nail you for the tax.

But look into it anyway. There seems to be far better bundle deals south of our frozen border.
