Any experience with Lanparte rigs and plates?

I'm looking into replacing my camera base plate and like the look of Lanparte and Tilta rigs, I don't go too mad with rigs but wondered if anyone had any experience with Lanparte or Tilta? Pro or cons and I am more for Lanparte equipment just because it seems to be a little cheaper, easier to buy and pretty well built

Hi Tony.

I've got a Lanparte base, rails, grips and shoulder pad etc. Very happy with the quality.

I'm not sure how it would improve on what you've already got, though. What are you trying to resolve/improve?

Ben.

The base plate has just one rail clamp for the rails and i find the rails having a little play in them when the camera is on my shoulder which puts out the follow focus. I noted the lanparte (like most sensible base plates) has rail clamps at both ends of the plate so the rods stay exactly where they should;

Everything is getting a little tired too, the camera plate for the AF really needs to be tight and even then is starting to have a little play. I am happy with the handles, i would consider the Endelkrone focus plus+ as a replacement one day but right now i am looking at a fresh base plate that has two clamps, is fairly stream lined and a new rod bracket for the Shuttle.

Do they have model numbers for the different types of Lanparte base plates?

It levitates ;0)

Just the magic arm thats comes in the bundle, its a little limited to be honest, it needs to go further forward. There is another thread on here that is looking at better alternatives

Unfortunately the naming is a little convoluted; some of the dealers started renaming them for no good reason (DigiGrip, DigiBaseplate etc.).
The current models are:

BP-02: Height Adjustable Baseplate:

VMP-01: Height Adjustable Baseplate V2: (LanParte call this the "V-Mount Plate" but obviously that name is wrong for quite a few reasons)

VMS-01: Shoulder Baseplate Combo

For your kit there's either the shoulder mounted option (VMS-01) or the Height Adjustable Baseplate V2 (VMP-01).
Each will give you two completely different styles of shooting with the VMP-01 being pretty much the same as how you have it now whereas the VMS-01 would give you a shoulder-mounted run and gun sort of style.

The other two versions (BP-01 & BP-02) will be too small and have knobs which will get in the way of your kit.

Both of the new ones (VMP-01 & VMS-01) fit a VCT-14 mount if you're into that, although the VMP-01 only has the main v-part of the mount and not the dovetail-style mount at the back.

I have the BP-02 baseplate. Yes, the clamps at both ends make it very secure. I think the vmp-01 has come out since as a newer version. The knob adjusters might make it slightly easier to adjust height, but I'm setting and forgetting - the height is set for a matte box/shade I use occasionally. A quick release plate underneath will then allow the whole thing to slide on and off your tripod - have a look at a Sony V lock base plate if you're doing a lot of switching between handheld and legs.

You'll probably want a "4 hole connector" or "offset bridge" to lower/offset the rails, to allow you to effectively use the shoulder pad with the AF - it's quite a tall setup and the AF wasn't designed for shoulder use, as they were clearly not aiming this at the ENG market - but I'm finding it a good handheld and lightweight camera with these few extra bits and bobs.

Re the EVF bracket, I'm using a Zacuto AF100 mount and their EVF Pro. Very secure and adjustable and solid enough to lock it against my face and provide an extra point of stability.

Ben.

Thanks guys.

i like the look of BP-02 and VM-01, will look into these, the shoulder pad makes sense but I've gotten by without one so far. Any idea of where to get these or is it just eBay?

will look into the Zacuto EVF arm Ben, I need to get that sorted soon

Shop around, Tony - I couldn't find any one supplier that did consistently good prices across all components. Amazon was doing a great deal on the base plate - but prices seem to have risen over the past few months. I bought rails from the UK Lanparte importer, Fast Forward Time - but I didn't experience any level of support from them over and above ordering direct from Hong Kong. Have a look at ebay or Link Delight. But the prices are all over the place - possibly because the quality is actually very good and they're trying to find their position in the market.

If you can wait, it might be worth hanging on until the London BVE show at the end of Feb - you might be able to look at stuff in the flesh and see if it really works for you.

Ben.

The prices have just been stabilized by LanParte due to all sorts of dodgy things going on with the Chinese resellers.
Now that that's fixed the SKUs should be the same across the board (be sure to check kit contents!) with the prices staying the same.

Previously there were people advertising kits as being complete (yet taking components out!), reducing the sale price and upping shipping costs, bundling old equipment and calling it new etc.
With the introduction of stronger dealer agreements and cutting off ties with a few of the outliers causing all the confusion and issues, things should get much better.

We have our prices at the lowest advertised price allowed so if you want a yardstick of whether you're getting a good deal feel free to look at our site or send me a PM.

Keep in mind that warranty and support will only be offered from official dealers and resellers so be sure to check over here: http://www.lanparte.com/Contact/distributor/

I agree that if you go with a separate shoulder mount that an offset is a necessity.
LanParte have two different models available (a fixed and an adjustable one).
Personally I prefer the fixed one due to the simplicity; the adjustable one also has sharp edges which I've nicked myself on more than once although obviously has the benefit that it's.. well.. adjustable, hah.

i have tilta shoulder support rig - and all i can say - its best! quality is best, it does what it should.... highly recommend it!

i have power splitter and v battery from Lanparte - it does work, but i had an issue - the power cord EXPLODED !!!! f.... me, its a 1st time in my life i saw something like that! that s... scared me so bad.
thing is that u can charge the battery by using a splitter - 220v power cord (looks just like standard pc tower power cord) and ac adopter goes along with the power splitter. I did not charge it often in fact since i had it i charged it like 7-8 times.... just dont use it often

anyway i tried to charge it 2 months ago and God loves me probably...... as i step away from that power cord exactly 2 seconds before the EXPLOSION! i usually charge all my equipment near my work place, less then 10cm away from my body! the Sound was like from Small Bomb,- REAL BAHHHH with just HUGE circle of Fire going from the flour in to the ceiling! sphere of fire was around my office table size - huge! i really had to sit down and relax for several seconds as it scared me so bad! I could not believe it is power cord ..... the cord was broken in to 2 peaces and everything from inside was outside, but what surprised me - what kind of CRAP it was maiden from, the wires inside it were so thin ..... my hairs are thicker probably!

the power splitter it self and batter are still working - have no issues so far! - does what it should! i bought a new pc power cord and it works for now

Scary story am glad you came away unscathed - have heard rumours of 'knock off' Lanparte power systems being sold - are you sure yours was genuine Lanparte?

Message Erik Naso on this site. He has both the Tilta rig and an AF100. I think if you even just google his name his blog posts about it should come up. We have the tilta rigs here at work for the C300. Some guys hate it (but they hate anything that isn't a traditional ENG cam) but I like it a lot. With a battery plate or counter weight it is nicely balanced.

If the pinch etc. were to go out it would blow a fuse before doing any real damage but since the cable between the wall and the pinch went up in flames it sounds to me like a problem with the mains wiring and/or a damaged cable.
Would need a fairly large spike and/or a decent bit of damage to the cable before something like that should be possible; glad to hear it's all still working though!

Thanks for your help and suggestions, I hope to make a purchase sometime this month! Probably Lanparte over tilta for cost, Amazing rigs from Tilta though!
