Any examples of the D800 in a "real" production yet?

I´ve seen lot´s of tests and of course the official Nikon "motorbike" film, but has the D800 been put to use in a narrative production yet? I´m about to make the jump to fullframe (mainly for photographic reasons, but i love the idea of getting all in one package) and am still able to change brands, since I didn´t have to buy into L-lenses so far.
I´m still not sure if I like the "Nikon Look", but this uncertainty could come from the over familiarity with Canon images, due to the wide use of the MII and the 7D.
So far the Nikon looks (too) clean and sharp for my taste, but again, this could change with when filming a drama scene and grading the picture accordingly.
So any shortfilms/higher-end docs/indie-features with the D800 yet...?

This could be a bit late for you but I have shot a scene from a film which was made to show what the mood would be like. I will upload a clip to vimeo and post the link.

Here is a link to a short video on the D800 trying out some different lenses. I put which lens I was using in the top corner.

I hope it's not too late.

Might wait a couple of weeks to see what the rumored Nikon D600 and Canon "Entry Level" full frame hold.

I am hoping for a true video-centric DSLR from one of the two.

In terms of "tests", Philip Bloom's come closest to useful information. Outside on a river, and him hanging in a bar with a cute patron as a "model." What a life .... wish I was charming with a British accent.

Wish us luck on the next go round. Please, a $1.5K C300 - pretty please? ..... Yeah, in 2018 ....

Thanks for the answers guys.
@Miguel: Your test scene was very dark and the picture was full of noise - is that because of the Vimeo compression? Was this a test to see with how little light you can come away with the D800?
I really liked the clips with your daughter, congrats (in many ways)! ;)

@unadog
I will for sure wait for Photokina and IBC before making any decisions;)

Here is the Phillip Bloom comparison I was thinking of:

Worth watching, though it is a bit long.

The 5D3 images sharpen up very well in post. I have been experimenting using Canon's White Paper suggestion for their older 16MP full frame 1DsII, using USM settings of (300, .1, 0) (Unsharp Masking). I have found that varying the second digit, the pixels size, up to .9 can yield great results, depending on subject.

Let's hope though that they or Nikon tune this next camera to video for the AA filter, downsampling, and off-loading! maybe, finally ...

Best,
Michael

Yes, to be honest the dark scene was more of light and location test than a camera test. I will actually be using my Scarlet to shoot this if it goes ahead. The vimeo clip had noise but so did the original so I can't totally blame vimeo. I was shooting in the dark which made it a pretty tough a test.

Thanks. The one of my daughter was shot under way more favourable conditions and was more a test of manual focus in video with the lcd. This is why in a couple of shots it is not spot on. What I took away was that in a bind I'll get away with it, but it's definitely preferable to have an external monitor or viewfinder. It was also seems easier to see the focus than on the 5D MKII. I haven't used the MKIII.

Also neither have really been graded.

A little searching can help ;-)

Here a short I shot (a real short, not running outside and shooting people on the street) to test all the low light and color grading limitations of the camera...it passed and exceeded.

I'm also in prepdouction for a short film I will be shooting with the D800 that starts next week.

Sorry, if people would make the choice of a camera on test that have zero, I mean zero methodology is extraordinary. He forgot to see what everybody saw like the 5d Mark 3 ISO is about 2/3 to 1 stop lower than the Nikon. So when you are shooting at Iso 1600 with the D800, you should compare it more to 2500 or 3200 ISO on the Canon.

This looks great!!!

A pity the full HD version is not available to download from vimeo. It would be great to look at it. But the 720p looks fantastic for being ISO1250. It doesn't look noisy at all. Did you run it through Neat Video? Is it all shot at no wider than F2.8?

I'm on the market for a large sensor camera for video use and the D800, although at the top of my budget limit is looking better and better. I think this looks better than most FS100 stuff I have seen.

It was shot at 1080p and downrezzed for the net. I had some shots at 1.8...and there are two shots that are at ISO 1600. It was transcoded and ingested into FCP...thats it. Aside from color grading, no filters or plugins.

There is a little noise but nothing to be concerned about in my opinion.

I've purchased the atomos ninja 2 since...and will be shooting i combination with that this weekend.

Thanks. Did you ever consider the Hyperdeck Shuttle?

Also, would it be possible to post the full HD version of the short? I'm really impressed with the footage.

Lastly, I'm curious about how the D800 crop mode works. Because that's how I would be shooting video with it since I want to use S35 cinema lenses and would need the APS-C crop feature which is closer to S35.
Does it make the image softer like with the D4?
I wouldn't think it would affect sensitivity would it?
Thanks!

I looked at all the off board recording options and the ninja 2 seemed to be the best solution for the features and money.

Sadly, I dont have the full res files. My friend who wrote/directed/edited this has them and right now he is in production on another show.

I have no knowledge in regards to shooting video in cropped mode. The short I am shooting this weekend will be with a set of Zeiss CP.2 lenses...Since this industry has been Canon dominated for the last few years, no one is really interested in Nikon. So, finding a set of local lenses with F mounts was the BIGGEST B*tch ever. I know some of the online places have them, but thats a 3 day minimum and a weekend shoot is a one day rental.

In terms of the Hyperdeck vs Ninja, for me the monitor is not an advantage as I already have a monitor. The main problem about the Ninja too is that I'm Windows based and Prores doesn't seem to work well with Windows.
Also, I really like the option of fully uncompressed that the Hyperdeck gives you. I wont shoot a whole project uncompressed but it's nice to have it for critical shots.

So you will shoot your next project on the D800 using the DX (APS-C) crop and the
Zeiss CP.2 lenses or will you still shoot full frame?

Yeah, the 5D and 7D really got a hold on the industry. But maybe the D800 will change that. Who knows. O maybe it's too little too late at this point with all the proper video cameras coming out with S35 sensors.

I just found the current season of Wilfred was shot all on D800s. not sure if the season currently airing, or the next one. But I do know they switched over from 7Ds.
