Any EX1/3 users shoot with left eye?

I've had some eye issue's over the years... as a result have lost 60% vision in my right eye. having trouble in bright sunlight with ex1, even with hoodman 400. Have used evf successfully but would rather have the resolution of the lcd. Does ex3 viewfinder adjust outwards toward the left shoulder? I know hoodman is coming out with an adapter but looking for a quicker fix. Anyone have any solutions?

Been trolling the boards since january and find this and other boards extremely useful and informative!

thanks

I am left handed and have a dominant left eye. I have always had to use the LCD on the Z1 and EX1. I have never been able to effectively use the viewfinder on Sony cameras (though I would like to) - I can't get focus with them. I have always been able to extend the viewfinder over to my left on larger shoulder mount cameras, and even the Canon Xl1. The problem for me have always been that by doing this, I cannot see my peripherial surroundings. This makes it hard to do a walk and talk when your non-shooting eye is three inches from the arm of a viewfinder. I have gotten pretty used to using the LCD on the EX1. It;s not great, but with the peaking feature, focus is not an issue. The EX3 looks like it could work for left eyed shooters as long as it is tilted up so that your head would be above the camera and not next to it. Regardless, there is not way to get around the fact that cameras are not designed for the left eye...

carl,

thanks for the speedy response... peaking has been great for me and i am glad that sony added this feature. as far as the head position on the ex3 I think this could work for me but I really don't want to sell my ex1 and spend an extra 2 grand for the ex3. in the good old days i used to shoot with my right eye and could observe my next shot with the left. I guess at some point hoodman and others will come to the market with a solution for guys like me.

thanks again!

I shoot with my left eye too, I am right handed so with the DSR 390 I still have it on my right shoulder, just extend the EVF arm a bit left, but with the EX1 I never use it, actually I want to bring it to the shop to take it off, LCD and peaking is always on makes it easier ( next I want pre-recording:) ,I guess it's a bit harder for the left handed person .

I shoot with the left eye on the viewfinder of the EX1. The cam has very balanced ergonomics for me when used this way.

You can flip the eye cup 180 degrees.

Very easy to shoot with left eye on EX-3! You just have to remove the small eyepiece and you can slide the whole LCD a bit away from the cam.

I tested it tonight. It's a very very nice camera. Everything feels just right. And I love the button on the side of the camera to change frame rates.

I have used that method, so far, when I am shooting outside and it seems to work pretty welll Tom. It definitely improves the ergo when pressing the cam against the head.

The fact that the ex3 viewfinder can adjust left might work even better for me though.

As much as I would like to jump ship... I think I'll wait and see what hoodman comes up with for the ex1... if it's anything like the ex3 viewfinder, it could be a cheap fix to a nagging problem.

Aye I'm left handed, left eyed, left everything'd too.

It's lame, like shooting a gun, just not designed for us - paintball is a *****!

I am acquiring an EX3 at the moment. I am counting on the fact that it should be pretty decent for left-eye shooting.

I'm left-eyed, left-footed, but right-handed. Does that make me a freak?

not in my book:)

I think I'm going to sell my ex1 and make the jump.

could you elaborate on shooting with left eye on e3 or pm me so we could chat briefly... I would really like to talk to a user of an ex3 that shoots right-handed with his/her left eye.
I would like to be totally confident about the ergonomics before I purchase.

thanks
