Any AF100 shooters using a GH1/2 (or GF1/2) as B cam?

thanks for the news about the firmware. did not know it is coming this month already.
buying an additional gh1 is not an option ...

Crouch End, work from a studio over in Hackney, I was dragged up this way from South London by my girlfriend!
Thomas - take note of the word's "apparently" and "may" in my post, anything I hear down the pub or read on internet posts is always taken with a generous pinch of salt!

The af100 and GH2 will not match up perfectly. The af100 has much better colors and image. It also has usable footage up to the 3200 iso mark. However, if you have time to do some adjustments on set and are shooting under 800 iso or so, it can be a great B-cam. The ability to swap lenses between the two is also a big advantage.

The wife and I took a little jaunt to Puerto Rico week before last. I needed a decent still camera and had all these lenses including the Voigtlander 25mm. So I grabbed a GH2 from B&H before we left. It's a great still camera. I was hoping to use it as a B Cam for this web series I'm doing. I did a little video but not under controlled light. It didn't look that great to me. Footage anyone? I'm going to futz with it and Barry's settings this weekend to see what I can come up with with the AF-100.. P1000137.jpg

Anybody using the Lumix G3?

I just bought one a few weeks ago to replace my stolen Nikon D90 but haven't really used it for video yet. I should do some side-by-side tests and post them up.

Agreed. The GH2 can also generally appear sharper than the AF-100 but doesnt have as good of color and overall image. As a result, it looks a little more like "Sony video" rather than filmic but if you grade in post, you can get them to look kind of close and the image is quite good. I'm actually bringing our GH2 B-cam (below) with me oversees because it's way lighter and smaller than the AF100 and produces a comparable image.

Been tinkering with this a little more lately since I'd finally settled on a "usual" GH2 setting.

Anyway, this recipe seems to work a smidge better. It's still not "perfect," but it's OK.

GH2 (TerraQuake)
Nostalgic, -2x4
+5 magenta in white balance

AF100
DTL -4
VDTL -4
CORE -2
CHLV -7
CHPH +7
MPED -2
DRS 1
GAMM B-PRESS
KNEE LOW
MATRIX NORM1

...and for what it's worth:

HVX200P
DTL 0
VDTL 0
CORE -2
CHLV -2
CHPH +7
MPED -2
GAMMA B-PRESS
KNEE LOW
MATRIX NORM

GH2 is still far more saturated than the other 2, but that's an easy dial-down in post vs any color matching. At least it gets me to a decent primary.
Try it out. Or don't. I'm easy on the matter.

i have hpx170 that im trying to match to the gh2, What Wb should i set my Hpx too?

ill try those settings tonight

My best AF101 profile to match with GH2 (smouth,-2,-2,-2,-2) is

Gamma BPRESS
Knee Low
Matrix Norm1
Detail -3
V details -3
Coring -7
Chroma -3
Ph Chroma -3
Master Ped 0

Make the white balance on AF101 and GH2 by pushing the butom (NOT use the same manual setting with x KELVIN because of very bad results). On AF101 don't forget to make the Black balance. And the images will match good.
On post, you 'll just have to reduce the hight luma (about 5 IRE) for the AF101 footage, with the level fonction...
I do not use the AF101 DRS fonction because it will just increase the black noise with no change in the hight luma.
I always set the Coring to -7, for all of my AF101 profiles. You'll be sure to get the max resolution, because of the Coring fonction which isn't able to make difference between noise and very fine details. My setting max iso is never more than 1000 iso (on AF101). Even if you have some little noise (very light) do not forget that it 'll force the AVCHD compressor to keep all details specially on uniform color areas, AND it makes, for the eyes, a best resolution feeling of the image ( we call "accutance" in french :-) ... ) - This last point is really really a matter point.
The GH2 make the best image resolution, but with this profile, the AF101 is not far from it, the images are very near. After several months spent on the AF101 profiles, using many many differents settings parameters, for me, the most important setting about resolution is Coring i keep on -7. NO CORING. And details no more than -4 or -3 : that do not make picture problem. With NO CORING, and no more -3 details, you'll never have problem with fine details : hear for example and so on...
In a Cinelike way, depend on the situations, i prefer the HDNORM (dynamique range) or BPRESS. Knee always on low. Matrix NORM1 and NORM2. The best resolution to my eyes (accutance) is with NORM1. The cleanest with NORM2. i prefer NORM1, if you're afraid with noise, you can use Neat video program in post : Cleaning the color noise and keeping 50% Luma noise, you'll get the best of AF101.
Well... try and see...
