Any A6000 XAVC-S Footage?

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone has any raw footage straight from the A6000 that I can download and play around with. I hear with the new firmware update, it's gotten quite a nice bump in video quality. I currently have the BMPCC, but I want a more versatile/walk around camera. I've found a lot of compressed footage online (Youtube/Vimeo) but haven't had a lot of luck with getting the raw footage. Thanks in advance!

I took a couple of random walk around clips at an aquarium before i sold mine. If you'll PM me your email I'll send you some files.

Image quality is quite good, sharpness is just about at the level of my GH3, which is to say good. My only complaint with the video is that the noise reduction is ALWAYS ON, so if you pull up the shadows even at low ISO you dont get that nice grain like you do on the GHx. You do get detail at low ISOs, but it gets really soft and blocky at higher ISOs. if you leave the shadows alone its not really a problem, the detail is just less than ideal. Id much rather have noisy shadows that I could choose to leave noisy and denoise myself in post to retain the most detail.

Compared to the GH3 though, the low light capabilities are far better.

Thanks Joe, I checked out some clips that TSDavis sent me (which included a lot of low light footage) and I have to agree with you. The noise reduction wrecks havoc on the footage. I'm kind of bummed out because some of the daylight footage I've seen are great. I think I read either here or PersonalView.com that you recently purchased an A6000? Have you shot anything with it that you can share?

Sure I can do that. Anything in particular that you would like to see? Like I said, pulling up shadows in anything iso 800 or less is OK - lots of detail, but after that it starts to get progressively mushier. At and above 3200 the overall video quality is still pretty good (relatively) but just kind of mushy and soft. At least there isnt any exposure jumping and terrible color shifts at high iso like there was on my GH3. If you use heavy noise reduction like Neat Video, it can bring some of the detail back pretty well, it will just be soft overall.

Thanks for the offer JoeThePro, I'm really good with any footage you can provide. I'm mainly interested in its DR, high ISO performance, and codec robustness. The footage that I got from TSDavis were not very encouraging in terms of low light performance. Nothing bothers me more than block/mushy footage when the sensor is starved of light. I'd much rather have grain and noise rather than macro blocking. I think I'm too used to shooting on my BMPCC.

How does its high ISO performance compare to the GH3? I was actually debating about getting the GX7 before the A6000 popped up on my radar. I know the GX7 is pretty comparable to the GH3 in terms of video performance. Anyways, it sounds like you just recently got the A6000, how are you liking it so far?

The a6000 has noticeably more DR than the GH3, Im loving it. Just be sure to pull the gain down in post because most editors clip the highlights that go up to 110 ire. The a6000 has much better noise performance compared to the GH3, at least one stop better Id say. Very little noise up to about 3200, but its a little soft and crawly from the noise reduction. Very usable though with some post noise reduction. Dont expect much fine detail in lifted shadows past 1600, but up to 1600 its very very usable. The GH3 was not usable at 1600 in my opinion because of the noise banding and exposure shifting due to noise that started to really get noticeable at 1600 in low light. By 3200, the a6000 is still usable but needs noise reduction to get rid of the crawlies, and its getting soft at this point. 6400 still cleans up well with neat video noise reduction, but its just soft. Colors arent all that great at 6400 either. Overall I think its a noticeably better performer than the GH3. Ill try to get some footage uploaded for you soon.

How is the A6000 with overheating?

I just received a Sony RX100IV a few days ago. I know that the 4K limit is 5 minutes, so I tested it at 1080, 60P, with SLog2. It shut down at about 19 minutes with very little warning. This was outdoors on a warm day, about 88 degrees and sunny. Handheld on a Zacuto Target Shooter.

I also tested a Panasonic FZ1000, which ran for 1 hour 25 minutes in 4K, 30P without overheating. It was sitting on a tripod in the direct sun. Now I am also looking at Panasonic a bit more.

Thanks.
