antineoplaston therapy... the cure for cancer

I know very little about this topic and treatment, but the NIH does fund the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (http://nccam.nih.gov/). Within any established community, there's likely to be some resistance to new ideas. That's normal and healthy. A fair burden of proof must be placed on new treatments.

There are some published articles on antineoplaston therapy (many of them with Burznski as primary author), but I haven't read them. You can peruse the abstracts here. If you want to read the full articles, I may be able to share them with you. I do know that gene-specific drugs are out there and Steve Jobs, for one, received this type of targeted treatment. Those regimens are based on sequencing the cancer's genetic material.

However, I'm somewhat skeptical of any treatment that tries to convince me with a 90 minute documentary. One reputable, peer-reviewed study that yielded dramatic results would make huge waves. Many researchers would scramble to replicate the findings. Maybe some of those articles on PubMed will yield better insight.

I'd love to read PMID: 15035876 {11th in your link, titled "The present state of antineoplaston research" }
Thanks

I'd like to see these ialso, if possible...

5. Long-term survival of high-risk pediatric patients with primitive neuroectodermal tumors treated with antineoplastons A10 and AS2-1.

10. Managing social conflict in complementary and alternative medicine research: the case of antineoplastons.

26-30. Lessons from antineoplaston.

36. 'Antineoplastons'. An unproved cancer therapy.

52. Initial clinical study with antineoplaston A2 injections in cancer patients with five years' follow-up.

ullanta,
26-30 available, free. Just click on the title, on the right top corner you'll see a box 'Full Text'
{These are just one page or shorter Lancet articles though, not much info}

Great thread. Good discussion. I hope this doesn't get closed. Cancer affected members of my family and close friends. Its a disease that needs to go. Its an incredibly painful and long battle. Often inglorious.

You got it guys. I couldn't access some of the older articles, but I grabbed 15035876, 5, and 10. I've uploaded these in one zip file and will keep the link live (at least for a few days, in case others want to peruse the material as well). Also, those 26-30 results were just commentary on an editorial. I perused some of them and they weren't particularly informative.

You may also find this link from the National Cancer Institute useful (or not): http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/antineoplastons/patient/Page2#Section_7

Here's the link. Let me know if you have any problems downloading it.

Edit:
Just some things to keep in mind when reading the articles:
1. Sometimes it's helpful to read the abstract and conclusion before the rest of the paper.
2. Stay aware of the methodology. The best evidence comes from randomized controlled trials. Controls should receive placebos (to determine any effectiveness) or the best competing medicine available (to determine if it's better than current strategies). The only difference in the experimental group should be the antineoplaston therapy. That's not to say you can't have case studies where people are cured, but those should be followed up with RCT's.
3. Stay aware of the journal. I think these examples are from reputable, peer-reviewed journals. Peer review isn't perfect, but it's definitely valuable.

Also, could someone who watched the whole documentary provide a summary for those of us who may have skimmed it?

Thanks! You're right... kinda a short editorial... I hope 10 is better!

Many thanks for the downloads Eximidious.

I could, but I wont. This might be the most important documentary you will ever WATCH. (After the 3 min opening scene I dont think you can stop watching it anyway}
As Burzysnki says; US deserve better.

So people who aren't able, for whatever reason, to view this documentary are just doomed to be ignorant then.

Some might 'choose' to be ignorant over accepting the frightening truth revealed in this documentary. Texas medical Board, National Cancer Institute, Food &Drug Administration, Elan Pharma spends 14 years & $60 million to put this man behind the bars for 290 years, so that they can steal his patents and copy-cat for the Federal Goverment (represented by The Department of Health and Human Services)

And in the process, fatalities are scientific honesty & integrity, patients lives, hope for a cure, trust in public service, and the truth itself...

Scary, especially when majority of population have this naive, almost mythical belief in the authority's trust, medical or otherwise....

But I'd also like a summary of the film… I haven't had tome to sit and watch even a 30-minute tv show since my twins came along!
