FS7: Anti Drone Fireworks, almost shot down

And if I had attempted a drone shot of fireworks over NYC, it would have been shot down for sure...

Nice shot!

hmmm I am sure it's forbidden to fly at night in NL too?
I find that a bit risky because of various reasons. The obvious one: someone might get hurt.
It's cold and a battery can die very very fast. Second one someone might complain about you
and it will get you into trouble with your filming business.

I was filming from above a large meadow, I live at the edge of the town.

And I looked it up, night flying indeed is forbidden, I thought it was permitted up to 50 meters, but it isn't. I won't do it again.

Yes, people do lots of dumb things that day, across the world...

Don't get me wrong. If I got headache sometimes it's not because of a big gloriole puts pressure on my head.
Regulations are very strict and some spectacular shots are not possible if you follow the rules always at 110%.
But night + cold + fire works can be a very dangerous combination.

14 Dutch people will miss an eye, 40 people with hand-injuries from fireworks.

The drone is better visible at night, also better to see which side is the frontside, but trees and other obstacles are not. This discussion is still going on in the Netherlands (though it is forbidden to fly at night.)

And when you say that each drone-incident will be bad for other users you are right, that is a reason one should not fly when forbidden.

I think, as ignorant as I was, I did it rather safe, only movement was vertical. And this is the meadow I flew above, the village is on the right side. landje.jpg

It scares me you're operating a drone and fail to understand the consequences of a damaged prop (especially so on a quad) flying so close to fireworks that could send the aircraft spiralling out of control.

It's ignoramuses like this who will destroy the hobby/profession by enabling governments to get even heavier with legislation and effectively make drone flying near impossible. It's made very easy for the governments because these fools proudly publish their endeavours to youtube for all to see.

Maybe it's better to locate but navigation is way harder or impossible in ATTI flight mode at night.
The fireworks accidents stats are useless because nobody will care if you crash the drone.

Afair the P3 has no battery temperature monitor only voltage monitor. In winter the battery can go down from
30% to Zero within seconds and zero means the copter comes down as a 1,5kg stone. Have you ever seen a
LiPo battery burning when the cells get damaged at a drone crash? It's not funny and almost impossible to extinguish

Besides the dangers of night flying there are lots of places were drones are not allowed. But kites/balloons are. I am considering these solutions:
