This question has been brought up multiple times I'm sure of it but looking at some of the other posts I have only had my question semi-answered.
Anyway, I'm currently editing two projects right now. The first we shot on a Canon GL1 with the squeeze frame, so when I export it on my timeline the squeeze will push out into a letterbox. If I put the preference to NTSC DV Widescreen it will take these black bars away...viola! Just what I need.
The second project was filmed in 24p Letterbox on a DVX100B so obviously what I am seeing is 4:3 with black bars at the top. If I put the project preference to NTSC DV 24p Widescreen I just get black to the sides.
So the question is...If I want to have my project in true widescreen (or close to) instead of letterbox, do I need to set the preference to 24p Widescreen, Crop my frame to fill in the black on the sides, and then export in 16:9?
