ok so i got payed today so i figured its time to buy a tripod.
i have an hvx and plan on having lenses and the whole getup.
but i have absolutley no clue on what kind of pro tripod i need.

i hear manfrotto is good but im pretty much clueless.
so i need something thats not going to disapoint me in performance and price.

recomend anything?

Lot's of information here on the forum about tripods. A quick search will turn up a bunch of information for you.

Personally I prefer Vinten and Sachtler. Vinten is my primary and I keep a Sachtler as my backup.

Right now 1000 bucks unless I wait another 2 weeks which seems like that's how it's gotta be. But the most I'd ever pay would probly be 1650 or so.

1650 will get you an upper end manfrotto (which will be more than fine) or a lower end Vinten or Sachtler

as far as the manfrotto stuff i use the 510 and 526 heads pretty frequently and i think they are as good as the entry level bigger name stuff.

my personal favorite all-around (35mmadapter rig, small jib, etc) "budget" setup would be manfrotto 3193 legs with a 510 head. that setup can be found new and used from about $500-$1400 depending on who, when and where you find it.

Libec ls38 all the way. I purchased it for my HVX and love it. Super smooth pans and tilts and built rugged tough. Can't go wrong. And its def in your budget.

you have to be careful when putting a crane/jib onto a tripod. a buddy of mine borrowed my 8' kessler crane and his tripod legs gave way and the thing nearly hit the floor.

the bogen 510/3193 combo i mentioned above handles my kessler setup pretty well, and is probably about the lightest rig id consider for regular crane use.
