FS7: Another top handle with smart-shoe for FS7?

Im doing a docu shoot in the coming weeks, and bought an Easyrig Mini Strong to avoid back pain. But my FS7 rigged with Sigma 24-105 and Speedbooster / Metabones adapter is so front heavy, that i need to hook the Easyrig so far in front on the top handle that it conflicts with the rec and zoom buttons on the handle.

It also conflicts with the protrusion that is made so the handle fits better in a normal hand. So it does not sit correctly on the handle.

What other handle options is there, that also support the use of 4 channel audio?

Buy a v-mount battery adapter and stick a v mount battery on to counterbalance it
Or record audio separately.

I will be recording much too much footage to sync everything in post.

But is there cheaper adapters than the XDCA unit, that will fit the FS7?

@liam

4-6 kg so its perfect for the FS7 without a massive rig.

I might be completely off-base here, but it sounds to me that you could possibly work out a solution by adding to the existing setup, rather than trying to replace the tophandle (believe me, I've been dreaming of ways to do that and still use my XLR-KM1 for some time - I even got as far as opening up the handle, but was too intimidated by the internal ribbon cables to actually go into surgery, and so just put it back together!).

I've been using the Shape top plate for some time (cheeseplate style - also available as part of their excellent LW kit, including QR handle grip - couldn't live without it!), mainly to attach several coldshoe adaptors and a 15mm rail monitor-arm-clamp to the cam, and it's rock solid. It bolts in over the top of the kit-handle, and I reckon you could easily bolt something on that protruded beyond the front of the handle (the plate already wraps around in front), and use that to attach your easy-rig cable to.

Am I wrong dude..?

(no Walter, your just a fekkin asshole)

:-)

Cheers, and best of luck.

P.S. Also note the (potentially very useful) difference between the XLR-KM1 and XLR-KM2. The 2 has the NI shoe built-in, whereas the 1 has it on the end of a roughly 10cm dongle-cable, and so can be rigged much more practically elsewhere, whilst still plugged into the tophandle (mine sits next to the built-in XLRs, using a right-angle coldshoe plate mounted on the aforementioned cheeseplate :-).

P.P.S. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you should also know that the noise-floor on anything plugged in via the NI shoe seems to be significantly raised compared to the built-in XLRs, so I always put my most important inputs into the native sockets, and reserve channel 3&4 for less critical inputs. It's a real shame though, because obviously one would want the least noise possible on all inputs - that's kinda the point! Forewarned is forearmed I guess...

While we're at the XLR-KM1, please forgive me going off-topic here and asking this question:

- Even when we disable Channel 3 and 4 in the FS7 menu, and only use Channels 1 & 2 - all 8 channels are still present in the recorded clip files. BUT: do the empty audio channels still "steal" from the total bandwidth (500 Mbps in PAL, or 600 Mbps - in the NTSC settings)? It would be nice if by only using 2 (or 1, for that matter - like with a mono shotgun), we could regain the inactive audio channels' bandwidth thus improving that of the video channel!

Anyone knows?

Thanks! This looks promising.

Having the mount offset to the right could also offset the balance issues that arises when you put the handle on. It gets too right-centered in mass.

So i gave this Shape FS7 cheeseplate a try, but the supplied screws does not fit the mounting per instructions.

The long screws are too long, so with less than 1mm of clearing the whole plate and handle is not rattling on top of the FS7. And the short screws are too short. They dont even go 1 full revolution inside the FS7 mounts before they are too short to go deeper. So they dont work either.

Whats up with this stuff?

Edit: Shape is sending me new screws. Lets hope that was the case :-)
