Another test video.

Robbie Comeau

Como's back. back again
Saw really inspires me with the editing. I love the camera movement, but aside from that, I love how they edit this piece. The CC, the quick cuts, the sounds. It all really gets me.

I know I can do a lot better, if I had a script and it involved this kind of style (which I do, and I'm implementing this idea to it later, that's why I did this as a test) but this it what I came up with in about 2 hours from shooting to editing.

Video

Settings
Detail Level- (-4) like always
Shutter- 1/60 like always
MASTER PED- (-10) usual
Gamma- B.Press like always
Frame Rate- 24pA FOREVER ALWAYS

Editing
Just a 3 way color corrector. Brought down blacks even more, bumped up whites in some, and de-saturated. The basic Comeau edit.

Here are some grabs:

Ha, I just shot and then made it up as I went. My main goal was to just cut back and forth from me to pictures. Then I saw a newspaper headline about a baby being left in the snow and died...Pretty messed up, I know, so I shot some photos of my aunt when she was a baby, and then did the cutting form the headline to the baby from there...

But ya, I'm sure I can make it way more interesting if I had a script, and better planning.

It didn't turn out so bad in my opinion.

Thanks a lot Mikey,

Robbie

Nice use of the Video Copilot Designer Sound Effects. I like the fast editing. Fast cuts are really annoying to do.

Word up to Andrew Kramer.

They are, and it's annoying to edit. That's why I didn't spend to much time on it...LOL! So when I make my upcoming short "Silent Screams" I will spend at least a couple days on the audio alone.

Heh pretty cool looking stuff, although personally it's a bit extreme for me - just my personal preference. And dang - shooting with a -10 master ped. Anyway, neat looking stuff!

just curious what shutter speed were you shooting? namely that sped up pan across the fireplace. thanks.....

I basically shoot flat on the DVX, except for a couple things. I'll bring my MASTER PED back to the negative when necessary. ([-6] - [-10] is where I'm usually at.)

In post, is where I'll do all my color correction, to get a cool looking mood/look going on.

Thanks for the interest.
