another super newbie question

yes, I am a newbie coming from Final Cut and willing to learn fast. I watched all the tutorials and had a look at the help here and there.

when working on the timeline, sometimes I want to delete a segment. Well, no problem with most of them (using either the delete key, or the lift-extract buttons). but sometimes with some other clips on the same timeline (usually at the end of the timeline), using the lift-extract buttons just produces a 'pling' sound (as in a command that can't be execute), while if I use delete or backspace, I get promted if I really want to delete the whole track. And it does, if I say yes.

the only workaround I found is to use the cut (cmd+X) command rather than delete. That would always work. But I wonder why some clips behave differently from others?

anyway, Avid MC is an excellent editing software. I am impressed.

thanks,
bye.
