Another storage option?

I did a little searching on a hunch and found this

I knew that they had the battery powered compact flash to CD writers for a while.. but now they have a battery powered DVD burner. I see that it doesn't support the PCMCIA card... type 2 right? Well, could an adapter work with such? OR anyone think that something like this could be built?

I also think that the P2 store is a great option for a one man band type of shooter, but so expensive. But the components would be pretty standardized.. aside from the OS/ programing and such. But, wouldn't this be a viable area for DIY people and/or third party companies.

so are you saying just record to a dvd? that should work how much dvcpro50/24f would fit on a dvd?

Not recording to a DVD, but backing up the contents of the P2 card to DVd for archiving and to then re-use the card. I am just trying to think of portable solutions that aren't to expensive. I like the laptop option but that's a pricey one. Something like a homemade P2 store would be great.. and this burner could fit in nicely. Just hoping to make this a viable option until the firestore comes out.
 
I'll be on the look out. Maybe someone could build somehing. Maybe even with a built in harddrive.
