F5: Another Sparky question - camera frequency when shooting with high frame rates

Hello again! Quick question if you don't mind. I live in PAL land, so what System Frequency should I set my new F5 too when I want to use high frame rates? If I set it to 25 (as I shoot everything in 25 fps progressive) this goes up to 150 fps - but the other frequencies (23.98 - 24 - 29.97 - 59.04) let you shoot up to 180 fps. Is there a best option for which frequency to select for my 25 frames progressive edits - or does it matter at all? Would it be 50? Sorry if this seems like a sillly question, but I've come from a 50 fps base - and that was dropping the resolution to 720! Thanks as ever, Sparky

You would set your base to 25p, which then gives you a max HFR of 150fps as you discovered. The thought of this as far as I know, is likely to make it more compatible with frequency of lighting, etc.. If you want to shoot 180fps you can just switch to 24p on the camera and still drop it down to a 25fps PAL timeline, each frame of 180fps gets mapped to one frame of 25p on your timeline giving you 7.2x times slow motion. Not sure it is really necessary....

If the lighting is all sunlight or all LED then refresh rates shouldn't matter, but many other lights using odd frame rates may cause flicker or the like.

Keep in mind shooting at 180, you'll need to "conform" it to play back at 25fps. Cinema Tools or the like.

Thanks. I am getting a little confused with activating the high frame rates with my new F5. Yesterday I could set them to up to 150 fps (using frequency at 25 and XAVC 1920x1080) - but today it will only let me set them to 60fps! Any ideas?

Look in the manual, if I recall you have to be in a certain color mode (RGB or YCrBr) and a certain resolution /codec.

I haven't changed any settings from yesterday Dennis when it was working up to 150 fps! Very odd..

Found it! The menu setting had changed itself for some reason? It's in CAMERA - S&Q Motion - High frame rate was switched to off - changed by itself! Thanks for your help though.
