What do you do between shots, if you need to do something else and both shots are going to be with the Merlin?

Rest Merlin + camera on their side, or release the mounting plate?

Docking the Merlin

Docking the Merlin

Many options:

- Pull the camera off the Merlin with the quick-release dovetail and (optionally)drop it on a tripod with the included tripod-dovetail adapter.
- Lay the Merlin + Camera on it's side (it won't break from this, it's so light [and strong])
- Fold the caliper-hinge and set the thing down almost flat on something slightly soft.
- Dock onto a "Flyer" size balancing stud with the hole in the handle.
- or (this is the cool one [and can be found on page 34 of the manual]) Flip the handly up under the stage (there is velcro, it will stick instantly) and just "dock" (set) the rig, hanging upright, on the edge of a table. (Or anything else handy)

In fact, you don't even have to flip up the handle, you can just dock it on an edge standing on the handle! (provided it's balanced properly)
Something like this...

Got it! Reminds me of those wooden hook-like things you'd make in shop class. Hang a belt from it, and it would seem to defy gravity.

BTW, what's a Steadistand, sold as a Merlin accessory? I can't find a pic of one.

A Steadistand is similar to a C-stand, and you'd also need the docking bracket to utilize it.

It's not really needed for most users, as there are pleanty of other places/ways to dock, as listed above.
