Another Reboot. RoboCop.

did I see Michael Keaton and Gary Oldman? And of course S. Jackson! All star cast baby!

Because of this, it looks like it could make some money depending on how they schedule it. Which, of course, is the only reason a movie "needs" to exist.

It just might biased talking but this one looks to be more novelty rather than an icon... Kinda like making a movie just so they could sell the merchandise which i think is the whole idea behind this.

The original Robocop was so much more than just another mindless action movie. It dealt with so many elements like what happens when big business and government get out of hand and the danger of technology. Some economic instructors use it as a teaching example. On another level, Officer Murphy, a good wholesome family man was brutally killed in the line of duty, and they could therefore legally do what they "want to with him" so they made him into a machine. His life, memory, family, everything was taken from him by sinister criminals and a corrupt system. No matter what they did to him, his soul lived on and he eventually rose to overcome it all, with both sides against him. It was a very smart film, from it's depiction of corporate head hunting to satire of the human condition and over the top violence to make it's point. Witty, comical, emotional, thought-provoking for some...with big explosions, guns and action for the rest.

Officer Murphy was a character both as a human and later as a cyborg that was a role model, needed even more now than back then as society continues to degrade. He didn't even use a single profane word, though the rest of the people did o-plenty. He tried to be a good father, loving husband, and stayed true against the odds both as a man facing slaughter and as a machine with the whole evil system against him, save one loyal friend.

Sure, it's budget wasn't huge and they had to use stop-motion animation for the robots with rear projection instead of chroma key, but I'd take that film over what this new one looks to be anyday.
The original 1987 film had vision and meaning. Depth.

I could be wrong but the new one looks like another Hollywood mass assembly line picture with little or no purpose, but they tried to sprinkle a little something of the old one into the story so it's not completely mindless. I think they should have left it alone. Even the music seems to be another generic un-compelling type whereas the orginal was moving, emotional and effective.

I realize I am hardly in the popular opinion. I like real stunts and effects rather than fake looking and unrealistic extreme action CGI. And I believe pictures should be made to convey messages, meaning and help people instead of just about empty entertainment and making money. Of course then there would only be a few movies made per year :)

Anyway. I hope the remake/reboot sparks interest in the original and people give it a view.

This looks much better than I thought it would be after seeing those first black GI Joe suit pics. I'm giving it a chance.

Which boggles my mind because this remake could go crazy with all the commentary it could make on current events. Big business and government are completely out of control, and the two utilize technology against us. A Robocop remake is incredibly well-timed.

Looks like we're getting something more akin to the Total Recall remake, which was a financial failure. No chance a big studio will risk making its audience aware of their world.
