FS7: Another promotional music video

Here's music video number two. To repeat the back story, about 15 indy artists contributed their music to our feature "Providence" and as a thank you, we are shooting music videos like this for them, combining their video with movie footage (also shot with FS7). So far each has taken about two hours to shoot. This Nashville band, "Hear Hear", in my opinion is going places. Shot at magic hour with FS7, internal XAVC-I, Slog -3 with LC709A LUT in the viewfinder, no crew.

Like your other video, I can tell when you're not using the correct part of a performance. The drummer coming in at the beginning is rolling on the snare (as seen in the wide shot at :11), yet just before that you're using a CU where his right hand is hitting his ride cymbal.

It also seems like her visual singing is playing several frames late in the beginning of the video... then seems like her visuals are happening too early around the 1:11 area.

This time I synced all the shots at the beginning of the timeline based on the first note of the song. I'll go back and check the sync at the two places you mention. Tried moving the drummer ahead a few seconds and looks better.

I am no musician I don't see the instrument sync issue ;-)

But as in the first video I find it irritating that the singer dress switches from a black leather jacket to a white vest and back.
Also I see some vocal sync issues - and at 2:40 you see the lead singer but the audio is focussed on the male background singer.

Really awesome idea of getting a wealth of musicians to contribute music to a feature and then paying them back with a music video.
Great work on the video too.

I know the world of music videos seems limitless, but for me there is an unwritten rule, that once you have a live performance of a band, with the singer using a microphone,
you won't let him/her sing without one.
You have a "reality" layer, the band performance and you have a "imagination" layer, the scenes from the movie. The singer just singing with the band gone isn't part of either layer and this really puts me off.
That said: I still think your idea of paying the bands skills back with your skills is awesome and everybody in this deal can be satisfied with the outcome!

I would take out some magenta (add some green), and lower the darkest blacks a bit. Maybe cool the shadows and warm the midtones a bit for a classic addative feel

edit. And good job! :)

Thanks for the tips, not done yet and will be playing with the color a bit. As for the mic, singer wanted to use it...looking at it now, it would have looked better without.
