This was shot over two days with an Xh-A1 and free lighting.
Other camera used was a vx1000 or something (the first sony 3ccd cam?)
Those shots were the principal and the cultural evening.

The film is for international students looking to come and study in New Zealand and at Hutt Valley High School. Originally it had heaps of voiceover but after a test audience I decided to cut it all out and just have visuals and interviews with key points.

Composed music as well (just some custom loops in garageband using vst instruments)

Shot in SD 16-9 50i using vividRGB setting. First ever shoot with the cam so was scared to use 25f and HD as I have not tried that before in terms of post.

Started off looking fairly pro.

The montage of activities started to feel rather random and lost impact. The audio in your interviews is all over the place - those needed to be evened out and your interview lighting seemed to have been a single light thrown at a subject sitting directly in front of a wall, so there were strong shadows directly behind all but one of your subjects. Some fill light would have been welcomed, and moving your subjects out from the walls and giving them some back light would have given those interviews a more polished look.

A bit of cover footage, either video or stills, would have been nice to illustrate some of the activities your subjects were talking about, and would have spared you the inelegant cross dissolve jump cuts.

But you're in high school? Decent job overall and commendable initiative to have approached the school about doing this piece.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah the interviews were filmed with one light on one evening all around town. We ended up having an interview in a cyber cafe, i was not happy about the lighting. Next time I will have more people and carry more lights.
