FS5: Another FS5 Lens thread.

I meant to say that the Metabones mark IV is for use with full frame lenses on full frame cameras, or crop frame lenses on crop frame cameras.

I have bought tons from Digital rev and never once had an issue. I heard they caught some flak once when they sold on a camera they used in a review video as new but I think it was a one-off.

I'm definitely getting the speedbooster, I just thought that the mark IV would also be useful in not giving the reduced focal length (understanding too that there would be no change from F4). Isn't it effectivly having 2 lenses in one with the sigma when you have 2 different types of adapters.

If you haven't bought the MK IV yet, wait and check out the Comlite. It works better and it's only 100.00. This would be good for something like the Sigma 18-35 lens.

I've looked into the Commlite before but the sigma 24-105 isn't supported (according to gumph I've read), so I'm back to metabones I guess.

Quick update. I'm set on purchasing the Sigma 24-105 and the metabones speedbooster ultra. I'm currently just waiting for it to come back in to stock at my local retailer.

I have the budget for one more lens up to about £500 and would like something at the longer end. Does anyone have much experience with the Canon 70-200 F4? It's quite an old lens now but still has good reviews, but has anyone worked with them in video either on the FS5 or 7.

Any other suggestions for a longer lens at that price point would be appreciated.

I have FS5 and Canon 70-200mm F4 IS (and both normal MkIV and, as of very recently, Speedbooster Ultra T versions of Metabones). Superb, sharp lens.

Take note the IS on this lens is very effective for hand-held work but also a bit noisy (if you are relying on any on-camera mounted mic it might pick it up in quiet indoor environments). It's super light lens compared to the F2.8 version - but hey with the Speedbooster i can get a decent FOV and F2.8 anyway.

Also, take note that in the last 24hrs there are rumours Canon will launch a new 24-105mm F4 IS with the new 5DMkIV - not what you're asking about but that lens will definitely be on my radar if those rumours are true.

Cool, thanks for the info. It's always good to hear opinions from someone who has the same setup as I'm shooting for.

Sigma 24-105 and speedbooster ultra purchased and tested today! Nice pictures from it, although no extensive testing as of yet. My only query for anyone with the same setup (Chad?). I was under the impression that AF worked with this setup (albeit slow), but it seems to be the case that it doesn't at all.

I'm not one to rely on AF of course, but the push to focus feature is certainly useful at times.

No autofocus with Sigma lenses. OIS - YES! The Metabones site has a list of compatible lenses / features on the Ultra's product page I believe. I never use auto focus. I think it does work somewhat slowly when using Canon lenses. I have the nice little Canon 35mm IS f2 that it works on, but as I have found, even in the best case scenario (native lenses) auto focus just can't be trusted for anything. You never know when it will miss, and that shot is gone - even if the talent was doing their job. If I'm worried I just go up to f6 and have a deeper DOF. Anyway, I'm happy with my Sigma 24-105, and luckily it's fairly parfocal. Others have not been so lucky.

Now that I made my decision and purchased the Canon 16-35mm F4 / Speed Booster combo (mainly used for hand-held shooting indoors; with bright light and for longer reach, I still tend to put my kit 28-135mm lens on but mainly use the tripod then) - may I ask you guys which other FF lenses are worth considering for future expansion of my FS7 rig that would make use of my Speed Booster? The adapter is nice, but it wasn't cheap - sort of waste if only used with a single lens...

Please share your opinions on what is available and proven (quality-wise) in both very wide end of focal lengths and for telephoto far reaching applications. Of course I did my own research and found most affordable lenses are not FF nowadays... This makes me think of adding a really wide and fast prime to my arsenal; as for the long zooms the choice is much bigger. But I would appreciate your opinion before any other investment...

I'm set on the canon 70-200 f4 IS as my next purchase, makes total sense getting the 2.8 benefit. So many good reviews of it out there.

Since you own the 28-135mm it makes little sense to adopt any 70-200+Speedbooster (50-142mm) unless you need the extra speed.

I agree; for now I'm covered as far as focal length is concerned. Perhaps some really nice and fast primes in the future...

I don't have such plans at the moment, but IF - in the future - I feel like some wildlife shooting with an super-tele lens, which would you recommend? In the Metabones compatibility table for Speed Booster I can see the Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3, but not Sigma or Canon version... Is it a good lens? And - assuming Speed Boosting - is the F5-6.3 ramping a deal breaker? I'm reaching that far with my imagination (pun intended), as we've just agreed that anything in the ca. 40-200mm (FF rating) range I have covered with my kit lens, so Canon's 70-200 would be redundant (unless I need a really fast one, made even faster by the Speed Booster)...
