Another Freaking Static 35mm Adapter Video Post!

Kyle:

cool video. I saw in "the making of' that you had the NTSC monitor upside down..ha ha...i do the same thing everywhere I go to shoot. Clients think I am crazy!

SO what is that huge thing attached to the lens? Is that where the ground glass is? Is there a clear CD inside? What is it made of......looks rugged...Iron cast maybe?

it's the housing for the ground glass... the original idea was to make it something much like cast iron but it turned into just using the prototypes as the actual models because they seemed rugged enough, they are made out of a really durable plastic and cut perfectly with a C&C machine to fit and screw into the face plate. i feel the genious of our device over others is that it fits into the panasonic face plate and only requires one diopter and one stepdown ring. so now when i wanna use it, it's as simple as taking my panasonic plastic face plate on and off! the funniest thing about this adapter is we've been using it for over a year :) we had it completed around the time people were giving up on the Agus.

we fit it so it only worked with Pentax C-mount lenses because we had a whole set of them (200mm all the way down to 35mm and lower...) so you could really swap lenses off on the fly.

we found the 85mm gave best results, i think partly because it was our fastest lens. anything under that you started to get some real serious vignette.

in closing though i felt it complemented the project we were doing, that's why we built it. also we built it to have a very simple blueprint we felt was a little more realistic then maybe some of the other ones being built, for future projects...

that's why we never talked about it or came out trying to hype it as a consumer product. i think anyone trying to sell you one of these things has to make is abundently clear that these things aren't just throw on and shoot type of stuff. it requires a lot of care and precision to get a useable image.
