That's it boys and girls...I am done toying around with macro's and filter rings and magnets and all the other stuff.

After 3 months of being addicted to finding the perfect GG, the perfect optics, the perfect lens...I have decided to retire, sit back, and watch someone else put one of these babies together.

Am I satisfied with the results?...yeah I am....Not bad looking but not perfect...but it works good enough for me.

So take a look at the vid....for some reason the quicktime encoding crapped out at the end of the video...oh well. Yeah there are some specs in the lens...yeah there might be a little vignetting..oh well, the natural state of life is chaos!

Finally...i go back to sleep.

That's cool man, very sweet DOF going on there. I would love to get my hands on a 35mm adapter *sigh* Oh well, maybe in a few thousand dollars time...

Cleavage:

All in all it probably costs around $250 do make one of these babies......
probably less if you have some stuff laying around the house....oh and by the way..it looks pretty good too

Cleavage2, A $500 adapter is coming out soon.

Super8, I was going to say the video looks just like film until I saw your name. I assume you are using it with a Super 8 camera right (not the DVX100A)?

skital:

it is 100% video...no film...My quest in building this adapter has been to try to mimic the look and fell of S8...which I shoot a lot and I am tired of spending the money and waiting for the processing.

Good job. It looks like really crisp 8mm. And the dirt on the lens helps add to the effect...!

Good video. Looks REALLY good. Good encoding, what settings did you use?. I have been wanting to shoot some Super 8 for some artistic shots in my videos, what camera/what resource do you recommend buying?

Nice work. I made a crappy one of these using an old SLR a while back. With a small DV cam, I could actually use the pentaprism to record images in the proper orientation ... but yours turned out much better. :)

Let see if this works.

Here is the adapter being used in two of my other cams other than the DVX100.

I got 3 GG screens that I use to create different looks.

One of them is velour paper you find in Office Depot or Staples...the one used to print wedding invitations. What I did was to cut the velour the same size of the glass filter... then i put the velour on top of the glass. In order so that the velour doesnt fall or move, I used another glass filter (I used the glass from a filter I taken apart to use as a spacer) and pancaked the velour in between the two glasses. So you have GLASS/VELOUR/GLASS. Alas, GG number 1

My second screen is adapted in the same manner. This time I used a semi clear plastic. What I did is that I went looking for various presentation folders they sell at Staples and I took a magnifier glass. I used the magnifier glass to examined all the presentation folders that used clear plastic as a cover...checking for grain. Once i found out one that I liked, I took out my lens (which I had with me....and then stuck the lens 3 feet away from the plastic and see if I could reflect an upside down image onto the plastic. Once I found one that didn't look too soft or too washed out, i would buy the folder and cut out the circle piece I needed and then used the same formula as above. GLASS/PLASTIC/GLASS. Yipee, GG number 2

Finally, I have another GG I made from a Fuji medium format camera. Just take out the focusing screen and make sure it doesnt have cross hairs, or focus spots. If it is plain and matte..you are in business. You can use a a Dremel tool to shape it to fit into the empty filter ring. Phew! GG number 3

Alas...focus screens. It sounds more difficult than it really is. Probably it takes no more than 20 minutes to put one together...if you have all the ingredients.

I tired the wax formula, grounding the glass with the Aluminum Oxide...but nothing worked for me......just get creative...anything that is clear and has some matte to it could be used as a focus screen.

smoke and mirrors...perhaps?

I've hear of all type of adapters coming out..I just coudnt wait...I even have Redrocks manual for the micro35...but that type of engineering is out of my league

Super8, do you mind telling us what the filters/spacers/ lens you have on there in what order? you know, so we can steal your idea and hours of testing?
