Another EXCEPTIONAL musical video of musical proportions

My buddy Brad directed this video, I shot and cut the entire thing. Some info, we shot w/ the dvx at 24PA and color corrected in FCP, we shot full frame and upscaled it into an anamorphic timeline. The process of shooting was fun. Over the course of a 18 hour day, we drove to 15 girls' homes and filmmed them in their natural enviroment. We would stay at each home for about 30-45 minutes and capture them and their material possesions. This video took a while to cut because the director and I were so busy but I would guess a good 25 hours went into the final cut. We finally finished the thing 10 minutes ago and I wanted to get your feedback - how do you initially respond to the piece. If it falls into a lull, where does it do that at? We are pretty much happy with this final cut, but as always, criticism is definetly appreciated.

Hmmmm...If I may. The pace of the visuals definately fit the pace of the music. Not a big fan of the constantly cross blur. Just when I feel I'm about to make a connection with one of the females you would cross blur. Never felt like I got to see who was behind the blurry mass. Most those ladies were hot too.(good job on that) had to pause on the frame where it was clear to see that. Maybe when some of the ladies are laughing you could hold it untill a few seconds after their face goes normal, kind of pause for emphasis. Easier to make a connection with them. It did take me awhile to assign meaning to the objects(probably about 3/4's through) Maybe a shot of the ladies holding/touching these objects would create a meaning. Maybe I'm just to slow. All in all I commend you for creating such a piece. More than I have done.

Thanks Stylz. Yeah I agree that the ever-changing blurring motion does frustrate you at times because as humans I think we like to visually settle, we need to feel grounded. This idea of making everything like an ocean of images all bumping and fading into eachother was the directors' call. I will post my first cut later. It's exactly the same structure and same images, minus and plus a few but with hard cuts, no effects at all. Its a completely different, raw video..

maybe it was my sound card but the quality of the music and sound was horrible. it may have been putfile, but the whole song was skipping a beat.

I think the difficult thing about the video is that it's more like being underneath the waves than on top... I wouldn't say get rid of the blurs altogether but give the viewer places to rest. The music is very slow and feels restful, yet the eye never gets a chance to rest and process...
There is one point 2/3 of the way through that you do this, maybe try adding a few more of those for emphasis and grounding. It's really difficult to understand since the eye has no definite place to look. Right now it is coming across to me as just artful images but without a concept that I can cling to.

Yeah i think the Constant cross bluring was a bad choice...alittle would have been nice, but you begin to feel dizzy and annoyed....and really if someone is doing this much thinking about the effect, and how its there, its probally not doing its job, taking away from some of the focus on the video where the focus should be.....
