another DOF

one more things i forgot to ask. is real good DOF possible with the DVX if an object is close to the background. i know the ideal situation is to have the subject far away from the background, but in some cases its not possible.

Then, ive been noticing that tons of filmakers, do something pretty cool. EX. There main subject is talking to someone. you can see part of the persona the MAIN characther is talking to but its blurry and also the background is blurry. is that possible with DVX.

Thanks

what you want is a 35mm adaptor. type it in the search function and tons of things will come up. what it does, is lets you put 35mm lenses on your dvx, so you have have a really nice shallow DOF.

what does something like that cost and yes there are tons of posts ive read. but still havent found what people think is the best

well theres the DIY one in the DIY section, which altogether would be like 100$ at most, and then the next cheapest is a letus35 (www.letus35.com) which is really good for the price ($350)

I've got shallow DOF with my DVX simply by placing the camera wayyyyy back from myself on full zoom (10x) and the iris open or on a low f-stop. I do this with my green screen to blur the green screen a bit which makes chroma keying a bit easier. Of course this isn't very practical and a 35mm adapter will make life a whole lot easier for you. I'm strictly producing instructional videos with just myself speaking, so for me, my solution works well.

with the 35mm lotus, do you have to shoot your footage upside down. thats what i heard and then flip it in post.

35mm adaptors (more of the less expensive ones, besides letusflip), flip the image. so yes, you'd need to flip in post.
