Another business card thread

I've seen these start popping up and I've come to the point where I've recently run out of mine. I liked the design for its previous intended purpose (creative, movie making related stuff). Now, I'm headed in a more corporate direction and now am in the process of redoing my business card.

I'm drawing a creative blank, so after having been helped here in the past and seeing others get pointed in the right direction, I'm again inclined to request the help of the members of this board.

Here's what my current business card looks like:

The logo that I would like to use (courtesy of a member of this board as well), is this one:

Again, I'm looking for a direction thats screams corporate, clean, professional. Not absolutely bland and not a fan of using templates so hoping for at least some level of creativity incorporated.

I have a friend who works at a printing press that deals strictly with businesses, so the quality will be fantastic.

Hopefully somebody can help point me in the right direction.

Thanks for all your help,

Kegan

EDIT: Oh and if anyone can help me figure out a way to somehow show that its video production, that would be great. I mean other than having "Videographer" on the card.

Thanks Anhar. That's the one I had, but now I'm looking to create a new one with the second image.

Any more thoughts?

What about adding a bit more an oil slick puddle underneath the new logo. Maybe somebody good at 3d work could help you out with that. I would think puddle would add enough visual weight to it that you could just run the logo pretty big on a white card and have your name/title/contact info in the corner. Simple enough to please the boring corporate world, but perhaps still exciting/creative enough? You could even run the oil slick off the card and into a corner. You could then add your name etc in the slick in white. Just some thoughts. Sorry I cant help with the execution on it, I'm far from a good graphic designer.

Good point Matt - our cards (which I'd post, but I hate them and am getting ready to redesign soon) have a little blurb that lists what we do. I think its just a block of text that says Video - Print - Web - Surveys - Training or something like that. I honestly am not sure, cards are at work right now... You get the idea though...

Some good points above. Kegan, I did get your PM but have been swamped so I'll just reply in this thread. My first thought is that it's going to be difficult to tie in water and oil with video production.

Obviously, the idea of "water and oil" is often used to describe two things that don't mix well, so taken alone without any visual tie-in to the product or service it's almost got a negative connotation. Things that don't mix, don't cooperate well with each other, don't get along.

It's a very specific reference as opposed to say "Kinetica films" or "J. Smith productions". So the name begs the incorporation of water and oil into the design as an element BUT it should also be clear why the elements of water and oil say something about your business in particular.

So: can you explain "Water and Oil?" May give some of us a better idea of how to help you make it better.

Oil floats on water
so...
we float over the competition?

I have no idea - interesting company name. Then again - mine is Inverse Paradigm

Hey Anhar,
I cant see your face anymore did you have an encounter with a stalker by anychance ? :)

Nice card by the way and Kegan if you want clean I would lose the coloring on the reflection it makes it look dirty, like you endorse oil spils and stuff.:)
Change the" and " to " & " sign.
Align your contact info to the left or right and I think you will need a logo.
Please do not place any picture of any BiG*ss camera on your card.Maybe DOP in full would be nice. And a white back ground is clean but dont be afraid to use color not a texture but a color which you feel represents your style.
Just coming up with idears here!
Hopes this helps.

I'm going to have to agree with this. Also, when I hear "water and oil" the first thing that pops in my head is an off-shore drilling company.

How about inverting the problem, think not about combination, think about seperation:

"Perfect Seperation"

"Seperating the diamond from the...."

something along those lines?

Sorry for not posting back earlier. I was recruiting at a couple universities, helping out a buddy of mine.

Anhar pretty much hit the nail on the head, with the meaning of the name. It was originally supposed to be "providing out of the box creative thought, separating you from the rest".

I can't exactly just do a name change, because its been registered and doing business for about a year and a half. Changing the name would be like starting over and because I'm not even established yet, going that route just seems like a major step backward.

I might have to add Video - Photo - Design or something along those lines to show what I actually do.

Thanks for responding as well Jared. Your time and post is much appreciated.

Keep those responses comin'!

@ Kegan in addition to the "video, photo, design" words, maybe also add a simple tag line (regarding the speration) to help get the message across about your brand.

Everts lol :D nah was playing around and accidently killed myself, had to spawn a new clone of myself

Well, its abundantly clear that my creativity has gone out the window...or maybe just my creative workflow in PS, because I can't think of ANYTHING.

go on deviantart and put a post on the jobs board and see what some eager graphic designers can come up with

Good call. How much do you figure it'll cost me? I'm sure it varies, but do you have a ballpark?

-Kegan

EDIT: I posted on deviantART and we'll see what happens. Thanks for the suggestion chris.
