Can I use 24p or 24a and still edit with Vagas 3.0 ? I know it does not support 24, but I thought I had read some where that you could still do it.
What are the drawbacks of doing this if I can?
I think it's important to remember that the camera makes the conversion for you. You can't stop it. So, once it's on tape it is now 29.97 NTSC or 24.??PAL. Where FCP can edit in 24 fps that means it reconverts (removes the pulldown) back to 24P for editing. Not very good unless you are going to film with it.
Capture in 24P and edit away in Vagas. You'll get the film-look-for-tv effect without any problems.
All your footage will be treated as 29.97 with the "filmiclook". If you're going this avenue, shoot regular 24p instead of 24pa. Just remember that if you are ever going for a film out, then you should use an updated vegas software, that way you can shoot, edit and output in 24p.
If you're sticking with 29.97, vegas 3 will be sufficient and a good app i may add.
Thanks guys.
I've been shooting 60I for a while now, just getting used to the camera. Now I want to switch over so I'll use 24p. There was some talk about changing the gamma thick/or thin settings. What would you suggest?
I'll try both but was curious what most of you guys are using.
..just so theres no confusion, the gamma settings are entirely separate from the detail settings which contain the choices of thick vs thin. but i would reccomend shooting in thin all the time, it gives the most detail, and ive never had issues with it. thick is for tv uses and thin is for film out, but ive just never ran into any issues with using it for tv or any other ntsc SD display type of programming.. some people have though...theres been talk of problems with shimmer from the fine detail created in the thin setting which is smoothed out in the thick setting.. so if you want to be safe, just stay in thick.
