Announcement?

I was talking with a local Panasonic dealer here in Texas today and he mentioned he was going to LA tomorrow (12/06) to hear "an official word" with regard to the release of the HVX200. Will there be an announcement from Panasonic tomorrow?

The reason I ask is this and please file this under "The Rumor Mill"...

Last week I was speaking with yet a different local Panasonic dealer about an order and he told me that his Panasonic rep told him, "...absolutely no HVX200s will be released before mid-January 2006". I called him back again today to check and he seemed somewhat bothered that I would even question it.

Still, I assume this is all a misunderstanding.

Actually, we are hearing 12/29. If released at this time, we may not see them until the 2nd week of Jan. 06
 
Your dealer is heading off to the DV Expo. Stay tuned here for updates on the HVX from the Expo. Several DVXUsers (including Jan of course) will be there and report back all the new info revealed there. :grin:

Ah yes...DV Expo. I knew that...doh!

I just can't get a clear answer from the dealers. I talked with 2 today. One said, "we'll definitely be getting some this month", while the other said, "nope, no way". Um...okay.

Hey Luis! Yeah, I'm still lurking around. I was gone for a while. Forum burnout. Are you planning to pre-order an HVX?
 
Actually I just spoke to a Panasonic rep and they are probably going to push the release date back to Feburary. Sad news.
 
Sounds like whoever you talked to has no idea what they're talking about. The release will happen December 2005, although the exact date probably won't be announced until the big rollout on Dec. 7th. Now, it may be that some dealers won't be getting any until February, but that's not the same thing as saying it won't be released until February! Rush should have some in December, B&H should have some in December, Abel should have some in December, any dealer who put in a big order early on should get some. If a dealership waited to place their order until it was too late, then yeah they'll have to wait until the existing orders are filled.

Anyway, all should be made clear at noon on Wednesday (I think the press conference is at noon...)

No, as good as it sounds I'm just not the preordering type.
There is definitely a new camera in my near future, and the HVX has a strong lead over anything else for me right now (at least on paper). But I want to get it in my hands and run it through the paces before I commit.
