animating a walk

i think you can do it with just ae5.5 and illustrator. thats all they mention in that tutorial i think

You draw your character in Illy and break into body parts on their own layers. Then you move their anchor point to the anamorphically correct position, parent, then rotate and move to animate the walk cycle. This method is time consuming.

Dan Ebberts has some expression setups for inverse kinematics on his site, but that is just as hard, if not harder, to set up. Like burlesque mentioned, the puppet tool is the easiest way to do this, it makes the whole process really simple and you just need to one layer of your character (depending on perspective, etc).

ill try that first suggestion
as for the second, id have to break the bank considering i only have ae6.5

From an old preston blair book. I am on my 3rd or 4th copy of this book and people keep stealing it from me.

I like the guide Arson. I was going to copy the full sized image, but couldn't find it. Would you care to share it with me?

Never mind, I figured it out. Thanks again for posting that.

So first of all, what exactly am I looking at here? Is that just a solid image? If so, you're not going to be able to animate just the character without distorting the entire image. The character has to be an independent layer and "cut out" of the picture. You probably know this, but I'll just state it anyway :)

Basically, you have to have everything on separate layers.

Now...if you mean "when I animae the guy, he gets too distorted" -- try adding some stiffness to the joints that you created with the pin tool. This will cause them to act more like hinges and less like some sort of flexible material.

Does that help?

first off what do you mean? the character itself is on its own layer

What do you mean by everything? like all the parts of the character? eg. arms, legs, head

ill get back to you about the last one i have to try it out

K this is what im working with.

then this is what happens when i try to move the arm. what do i need to do to fix this? im thinkin i may have to re-draw the character?
