We all know you are AE god, but not everyone has 50 bucks to drop on somthing like this.

Low blow.

My "sigh" was really not so much directly at his request, but more at the general acceptance of people asking for free work in the marketplace these days. Design has become something people try to get for free like they're entitled to it. "in exchange for letting you put it on your reel" or for "great exposure" are two common bait tactics. Its a creative art, and when done well, is a highly sought after and highly valued commodity. My little rant is overblown for this thread, as i'm not really knocking him for asking.

If you're really interested in creating a logo for yourself, just crack open illustrator and get familiar with the tools. Then take a peek around at other logos to get ideas and inspiration, as well as style and techniques. Then, just have at it until you're happy with what you've created.

Just my random rant.

ps: 50 bucks won't even scratch the surface for a pro to tackle something along these lines...

its sad i know.... i just quit my job a month back, if i had the job still i'd be able to pay it, but since no job, all the money that i had saved is going for school, bills, and some of it is going to help pay my way to Full Sail...

Keep at it man, I went to FS too. Twice. Expensive, but you can learn a lot if you apply yourself.

i do plan on applying myself. i'm very interested in everything involved with filmmaking, and i know it's going to be a lot of work, but i'm ready for it and can't wait to get there.

if i had money, i'd be glad to pay someone to make a logo. i'm still waiting to hear back from a few places on my application

I know its not animated , or finished, i just didnt have the time at work right now to touch it up and fancy it up, the picture in the frame(s) are just place holders for whatever, but my concept is that the picture in the middle has a sick effect like the film is being run (ya i know its running sideways) but its like its running through a projector and just some cool stuff going on, might take someone more advanced than myself , or myself with quite some time on my hands to do it.

Recently had one of our development producers tell me that he wanted to podcast portions of a new series we're working on.

My reply was... "okay, how do we get paid?" He basically said it would be a brand awareness building exercise - there might be a little money in advertising. Oh, yeah. That business model.

I do a fair amount of webdev for local organizations and there is never money in it. If it was between having a site for nothing or paying for it, they'd almost always opt out. That's because they can and do get digital design work for free.

Digital creation has done a lot to empower too many to deliver too much for too little.

thanks cynic. that's awesome. it'd be cool to have a better picture on the side (i'm thinking of not using the picture i used). I like callaghan's idea of a farm with a tractor and film reels on stalks. that is a sweet photo though cynic. props!

edit* could you add productions at the end so it reads ZFarms Productions? again, really love the idea

Indeed. Just look at the photoshop retouching market. I suspect we're heading that way with mograph and VFX work too.
