Animal Drama

So I live on a mountainside in the middle of nowhere. There is alot of animals around.
So yesterday I am out for my daily walk, and see large pawprint in the snow, along with a smaller set. There is always lots of animal tracks so I don't put much thought into it.

So this morning on my drive down my 2mile driveway, I come across a deer carcass that has been ripped to shreds, head over here, leg over there, rib cage scatter.

Looks like cougars have moved in to the hood. ****.

Where is Merlin Perkins when you need him.

I was going to take a picture for you guys but it was just tooo harsh.

I thought I was in "Bambi-Nam"....

Sounds like you need a .22 rifle with a scope... time to hunt some cougar! HAHA!

Well I wish it was that easy, cougars are more stealth than a ...
they will be following you for miles and you wouldn't have a clue.

They jump on your back and bite your neck, so the only thing that would work is a big knife, if you can move quickly enough.

At least there is lots of deer for them to eat, and hopefully he/she doesn't want to change the menu.

I think I'd want something more substantial than a .22 caliber rifle if facing a pissed-off cougar/mountain lion/puma (same critter, different names).

Just got off the phone with a wildlife expert with 30 years under his belt. He said all of this is good, that it is killing what it should be killing. He also said that if it was tracking you you would never know, and to be careful bending over to look at flowers, now that reasuring...
If there is lots of deer to hunt, then it is all good.

Ummm, gulp...ok.

oh man.. i saw a guy try to handle a bobcat at the Museum o naural history once..

the bobcat got "upset" and then they needed an ambulance.

the bob cat was half the size of a house cat. I hate to thin kwhat a 80lb cougar could do.

I'm trying not to get weirded out...now maybe if I got a big Bear outfit.)

Do you live by yourself or do you have a family? I'd probably be more worried about the family than myself ;) Not saying that you're being selfish or anything, I'm sure you've considered that if you do and if not, going for walks alone wouldn't be too smart.

How does one know when a cougar leaves the area anyway? When the carcasses stop appearing? You should try to find that out too.

I live by myself with redneck neighbours nearby...
I'm not really too worried about myself, but it is in the summer when my kids come to visit that I am concerned. It is also alot harder to see tracks and how fresh they are in summer....

Hopefully they head farther into the mountains in the summer.

Just got a phone in to the cabin last year...and no high speed.

Those pics aren't as nice as the one you posted of your house with the snow all around. I say, grab the DVX and go cougar hunting. Who knows you might film the new "Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom".

Just be careful, we don't want you to film the sequel to "Grizzley Man"...I don't want to see "Cougar Man" showing up anytime soon :crybaby:

Man, that thing was hungry!

Those pictures are freaking amazing! Call me a city-boy, I guess.

You DEFINITELY need to pick up a bottle of Cougar-B-Gon :)

I am getting a Bear-Banger, which basically makes alot of noise.
I think that by the time I got that fired up , I would be stuffed and mounted on some cougars wall.)
