Angle of View to Z

Is there a source on the web that corresponds those pesky zoom numbers to Angle of View numbers?

Re: Angle of View to Z

I don't know, but I think they're linear, aren't they? I think Z50 corresponds to half the travel through the zoom range. If that's the case, you should be able to use a simple formula of focal length = 4.5mm + (40.5mm * (Z/100)). So Z99 would yield 99/100 * 40.5mm = 40.5mm, plus 4.5mm, yields 45mm. And Z50 would yield about 25mm.

I just figured that someone may have gotten the exact numbers from Panasonic.

Um, just checked my camera.

Are the 100 models 4.5 to 40? Since my 100A goes 45.

As for the linearity. It's definately not linear, as Z50 is 10 -- at least that's what it says on the dial.

No, the 100s go from 4.5 to 45. What makes you think they'd go to 40?

Ya, it was my mistake. I didn't read it properly.

However, I'm certain that it's not linear
