FS7: and I still haven't found what I'm looking for (4K + Cust/SLOG3 + Simul Rec + WFM)

I've been using the FS7 now for half a year but still did not get to the setup I would prefer:
4K 4096
XAVC-I
Custom Setting
Gamma SLOG3
Simultan recording on 2 XQD Cards
Waveform Monitor

Is the combination of the settings above not possible? Are these bugs (where a Firmware 3.0 could probably help)?
1 and 2 below work fine but adding 3 and 4 seems not possible - any help appreciated

1) 4K recording on XQD Cards
I'd prefer to capture at 4K which gives me additional quality in post processing to HD. "Its like having 1,5 cameras on set"

2) Custom Mode with Slog 3
I do NOT want to switch to CINE/IE as I find the custom Settings more convenient - I want NR, distortion control and want to tailor my WB. and sometimes have to switch to HG800 for immediate presenting ..
I like the little washed look of the SLOG on the Monitor and can easily imagine how the final film will look like (and I feel that colors are better set in post productionion). No Need for an MLUT for me but for the exposure the WFM would be valuable to make sure I'm not loosing Whites.
Recording Format ist XAVC-I

3) Simultan Recording
I've been using XQD in other devices and they never failed - but as the recovery of an MXF Clip is nearly impossible (data recovery can only be done by SONY) I'd like to spend some more Money and record on 2 Cards A + B. So if any of the two is corrupted I still have the second one.
The manual says no simul recording for UHD (3840x2160) but 4K (4096) should be possible. I never achieved the simul reording to be selectable if capture format is higher than 1080p.
Is recording to an ATOMOS Shogun 4k the (only) solution to have 4K recorded with a backup.

4) Waveform Monitor
I'd really prefer to have the WFM visible in all modes. I have read many postings about how to turn it on but never succeeded with a Resolution above 1080p.

Can anyone give me a Setup procedure to have 1-4 together or am I asking to much??

The waveform displays in 4K just not when luts are enabled which is only in CineEI only. I'm not sure why you can't seem to see the waveform in custom but it works.

Check your camera settings.... straight from the FS7 manual:
States When Video Signal Monitor Cannot be Displayed

  • To use Video Signal Monitor, SDI output must be enabled. Also, the output resolution must be 2K orlower. Check the following settings.
    – OutputOn/Off>SDIintheVideomenu
    – OutputFormat>SDIintheVideomenu
  • In the following cases, Video Signal Monitor cannot be displayed in the viewfinder.
    – WhentheSDIoutputisedgecroppedusingOutputSetting>4K/2KtoHDConv.intheVideomenu– WhenthereisamixtureofMLUTOnandMLUTOffsettingsforMonitorLUT>SDI1&Internal
Rec, SDI2, HDMI, and Viewfinder in the Video menu

As for simultaneous recording... can't do internally at UHD or 4k ... but you can do internal & external simultaneously - if you use an external recorder that captures 4k over hdmi such as the Ody 7Q+ or one of the PIX Vid Devices recorders ( and both of these allow you to have waveform & LUT display at same time as well). Not sure about the Shogun.

Many thanks - the solution was the 4K/2KtoHDConv. Setting - after changing to LetterBox the WMF is here ;-)

For the simultanious recording I'l have a look at the Ody 7Q+ - when you say they allow waveform and lut - that means on the Ody 7q+ not in the viewfinder. If I turn HDMI to 4K that would stop the SDI Output?

The Odyssey7Q+ cannot control what is displayed on the viewfinder. But on the Odyssey's OLED display, one can apply a LUT and also simultaneously show a waveform (among several exposure tools) and choose whether the waveform reads the underlying signal or the version with the LUT applied. One can easily toggle back & forth to compare as well.

I haven't been able to get the WFM to appear in 4096. It works in 3840 - but as others have said, you either need no LUTs or all LUTs on.
