Anamorphic

Perhaps a stupid question here, but...

Just got my Panasonic 16x9 adapter, and have been testing it out. In the viewfinder and LCD, the squeeze is very evident, and I will just frame normally. My question is, how do I go about seeing the footage unsqueezed into widescreen. A friend has a tv that has a widescreen setting, so I assume I could use that...? How does one handle this w/ out such a monitor?
Also, our final goal is an eventual film-out. Given that, when we load the footage into an NLE system, will it still appear squeezed? Is there a special process we must undergo to display the footage in widescreen as intended?
I'd appreicate your input as I've never shot w/ a converter like this and want to get the full heads up.
Thanks!

Re: Anamorphic

The anamorphic adapter makes footage that is designed for viewing on a widescreen monitor, so yes, viewing on your friend's TV is the way you'd want to see the footage.

Most NLE's should be able to edit the footage and display it unsqueezed. Vegas can most definitely do that.

Re: Anamorphic

Hey Janosz,

Premiere, Vegas, Aftereffects, Vegas, Avid all have 16:9 project window settings to edit with.

You can also import the project into a 4:3 project but click the option within the program to maintain the original aspect ratio when importing so that it will be a the letterboxed 16:9 image in the 4:3 window.

To shoot the footage and view it in widescreen on the DVX, you have two hardware options, both available from Century Optics. 1) Widescreen eyepiece adaptor ($375 USD?) 2) LCD widescreen adaptor ($295 USD)

Cheers,
Norm
