F35: Anamorphic tests

This is a very useful observation because what you seem to have found about the front element distances would easily be interpreted as simply a focal length issue - and apparently has.

Thanks Miguel for these tests. Love them!

So, in my recent experience i'm truly sticking with Kowa B&H 2x, old FD Canon glasses -i tried the SAME russian ones but no luck at all, too soft for me and no oval bokeh- and the magical Core DNA diopter focus.
Hope these grabs from what i'm filming now would help if any...

Ps. Yes, i'm aware of color aberration; BMPCC & RAW, need to fix it in post. Anyhow, enjoy!

GORGEOUS stuff Alex! Love it.

I'd love to hear a little about how you approached the grade.

BMPCC, BUT, i think this setup is perfectly "portable" to F35. (if not FD ones, then PL mount vintage "character" old glasses)

I thought that name sounded familiar- Alex I watched 3rd&7th SEVEN years ago now? Jeeze. Nice seeing some of your photography. Killer location...

I was messing around with the SLR Magic 1.33X anamorphic adapter. Fun, but not worth it imho. I think I would only go for a 2x adapter and crop the sides.

Also, seems using a slower lens wide open is better than a faster lens stopped down. impossible to get sharpness when at f1.4 on a Nikon 50mm, but when stopped down, get hexagonal bokeh shapes. So, going with a 2.8 or even 4 lens wide open would give more aesthetic results. (assuming stills lenses are used)

Hey guys just thought I'd share a video I shot with the Kowa Round Front 35mm T2.3 to give you more examples of anamorphic on the F35. Everything was shot wide open, recorded to the Odyssey at 12bit 444 Prores

Did a pretty sketchy colour grade in premiere with Film Convert. We decided not to crop in to get the aspect ratio regular and instead kept it ultra wide straight out of camera.

Here are some ungraded stills from the day also

awesome, please don't let someone convince you to crop it, the sides of the image are great combined with the F35 movement and color. A true testament to the low light capability of the camera also, you just have to know how to use it properly in those settings and it turns out great.
