GH3 Anamorphic Screen Grabs: GH3

I recently got rid of my GH2 in favour of the new GH3. Overall I am happier with my GH3. Better build, buttons/ergonomics, battery, lcd/evf (although if you don't look perfectly straight through the EVF it is wonky) cleaner ISO, flatter profile, feels like better DR, no more gamma shift, the ability to use focus assist through HDMI, fantastic still photographs, and an overall cleaner video image. All of these positives outweigh the slight increase of moire.

These screen grabs are from the only thing I have done with my GH3 besides playing around. I was the DOP on a friends short film production. I work retail and the month of december is a write-off as far as free time is concerned, but I can't wait to put the camera through its paces more.

This was all with my Nikon 35mm 1.4 and a Kowa 2x adapter. These grabs are screen-shots from VLC that have quickly been put through photoshop.

Thanks for looking.

Cool. Whats your thoughts on working with the camera in production? Things like the layout of buttons, function, and of course images. How or what did you find working with the gh3? Looking forward to seeing these in motion.

Almost everything about it is nicer than the GH2. Since the focus assist still works with HDMI monitor I was often using the touch function to zoom in while using my small HD DP6. The only thing I dislike is the disappearing info/double button to wake up the camera. I hope they fix this.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have just received my GH3 and I do get the gamma shift bug (at least I think I do)?

I have uploaded a short YouTube video to show the problem:

great stills! Would you mind explaining this Kowa 2x anamorphic thing? It pairs with the Nikon or? Googling it looks like it's a lens on it's own.

I do not really see anything going on there except for the auto focus assist light. Looks like you are shooting with auto focus and auto exposure of some sort anyways, so a gamma shift would be the least of your worries. The GH2 had an issue where there was a subtle colour and contrast change. That behaviour is non existent on the two GH3s I have owned and many others I have used.

If you look at the end, when I stop recording, the video gets much darker. This means that when I setup the exposure, etc., my settings are actually wrong.

It does this on full manual settings too.

If you look on the histogram in the video, do you not see how the 'waves' move left when I stop recording?
