Anamorphic Lens?

I've been looking at some GH2 footage with anamorphic lenses on vimeo: https://vimeo.com/31375483

AMAZING! they look to be 3-10K for a single lens...holy shiite!

any luck of getting one for below 2K?

PS why does this particular lens give it that film quality that none of the dslr lenses give?

After being stretched in post the pixels are rectangular 2:1 which softens the image and takes out some of the digital-ness. Anamorphics usually soften the image anyway but they preserve vertical resolution which is important to the perception of sharpness. The result is quite organic. Additionally the characteristics of the bokeh (vertically stretched 'waterfall' effect) and perspective shift during rack focus is something only seen with these lenses. Since they have typically only been used in movies historically there is an association with the look to film. Additionally in your example it looks like many of the shots have not been fully desqueezed or that the lens used is not exactly 2:1 resulting in the actors looking slightly tall and thin. This is something that used to be seen on some telecine transfers, sometimes rather than pan and scan they would record the squeezed footage to VHS. Also seen on aeroplanes in the old days, screen real-estate being limited they would often stretch with a factor of 1.5:1 instead of 2:1 resulting in vertically stretched footage.
