Anamorphic lens for the EX1?

Well it's already 16:9 in the camera- why would you want to add "anamorphic" on top of that. Jut mask it off in post if you want a 2.35 look.

I like the look of the out-of-focus areas and the flares that can be achieved (I know I could simulate the flares in post). I also think shooting anamorphic gives a "bigger" feel to the composition. I might be wrong, but it is just my opinion.

again, just crop/mask your 16x9 footage to 2.35... shooting anamorphic on top of having 16x9 sensors won't help you here. when you go to dvd/bluray, you'll have to make it 16x9 with a mask anyway (can't make 2.35 discs).

But then I can't achieve this

or this

(images are from David Mullen on reduser).

I already mask off my footage. It was more of a question of possibility then anything.

Well, I've used the Panasonic Anamorphic adapter on my HV20 with great results. Focusing becomes a little trickier because you have to barely touch it to get things in sharp focus. This could be just because of the little focus knob on the HV20, I don't know how it would perform on a camera with a manual focus ring.

I've actually considered using it on the EX1 with a stepping ring. The only problem could be that you lose a bit of the wide end going from 77mm to 72mm and possibly having to use a 72mm spacer ring, like I have to to get the threads to reach each other. Like everything else, even the DVX which the camera was made for, you can't zoom in too far or else everything will become hazy and streaked.

Composition changes are immediately apparent. Using this combination has shown me that all along I've wanted to film in 2.35:1. The image is squeezed in the LCD but there are LCD's coming out that have an anamorphic unsqueeze like the new Nebtek HD LCD's, saw them at NAB and they did have an anamorphic unsqueeze, and possibly the Carrion LCD, haven't gotten confirmation on that one but it would be good anyway because of the high resolution.

In post, you have to unsqueeze it and you can export it as a 16:9 file with no problem, it'll just have the 2.35:1 black bars or I suppose you could technically leave it squeezed for film out and such for native 2.35:1 projection, but I haven't heard of anyone testing that out with any digital cameras in this way.

If using a 35mm adapter and 35mm lenses, I have no idea how the adapter would perform, however, I tried using the anamorphic adapter on my D300 with the stock 18-200mm lense and it was able to focus correctly all the way to about a little above 100mm, that's with a DX lense though so take that as it is.

This wouldn't work - the squeeze ratios are different. Anamorphic projection requires a 1.2:1 aspect ratio and a 2:1 squeeze.

Does the panasonic adapter give the anamorphic flares and distorions that are present in the images you posted? I thought that those were limited to actual anamporphic lenses like the kind used on 35mm film cameras not on anamorphic adapters.

If something like this could be put together reliably, there would lots of people interested.
