anamorphic drops frames

Why when I view my anamorphic footage on the monitor - whenever the sound goes to RED all the image is full of those little squares?

It looks like anytime my sound is too loud (going very far to red on LSD) - also the image is affected - I mean completely destroyed.

Is it normal?

Thanks

Re: anamorphic drops frames

Not normal under most conditions. However, if the camera is right next to very loud speakers or a gun firing off, it will often glitch out or drop frames. This isn't because of the sound peaking, it's because of the shock of the sound waves hitting the camera during the taping. Best to keep the camera at a distance from guns, jet engines, and loud woofers or you might see dropped, glitchy frames, kind of like what happens when you bump the camera really hard during taping.

If your camera is extremely sensitive to shocks or if the sounds that are causing the glitching aren't in the gunshot/loud woofer range, you may need to have the cam serviced.

Re: anamorphic drops frames

Y'know, I've never experienced this, but I've heard of this same issue for YEARS. Back in the VX1000 days people would ask if loud noises affected the picture, and said that loud noises were causing picture dropouts. I guess there must be something to it!

Re: anamorphic drops frames

It aint gun shot but just an ambulance or police car passing by which cause the picture to drop the frames.... I realized that if I manually limint the audio levels and they do not go further than to the first red dot - it's ok but if it hits third or fourth red dot - the image has many dropped frames.... I will check what if I will just speak loud ...
