EVA1: Anamorphic Desqueeze

Now that the Atlas Anamorphic lenses are avlaiable in EF and PL mount will desqueeze be added to the camera?

Cheers!

Don't know. But anamorphic is far less appealing on a 16:9 or 17:9 sensor than it is on a 4:3 sensor. Anamorphic makes sense on a GH5, but not so much sense on wider sensors.

When I shoot anamorphic with my EVA1, I know I have to finish in 2K because I'll be doing a 2.39:1 center extraction from the 3.56:1 image you get from a 16x9 / 17x9 sensor area. But even so, I love the results. These are from a short film my wife and I shot a few weekends ago. EVA1, Kowa B&H 2x anamorphic, Voigtlander 40mm f/2 taking lens.

It would be nice if the camera offered desqueeze for monitoring. Right now I use my SmallHD 702 or Odyssey 7Q+ because they both do a 2x desqueeze AND punch in to 2.39:1 center crop so I can see my intended framing.

Great images.

I believe the resolution of the EVA1 after a center crop still offers more detail than what you would get from the aging 4:3 ALEV III sensor.

It would be nice if the Varicams offered a little more height by using the pixel in the sensors look around area for a psuedo-4:3 mode.

There are also 1.3x anamorphic lenses (like hawk vantage) or PS Technik's 1.5x Anamorphic primes and zooms that play better with the 16/17:9 sensors.
