Hi,
This is a follow up to early thoughts and observations about the anamorphic adaptor.
Okay, it locks into place, got the old one returned 100% full refund, have a new one and it is adapted for my 16x9 matte box. Of course, being that it is a lot of glass it naturally causes focus fringing when put on my DVX. Again, its a lot of glass. Sure, this fringing can be reduced based on my f-stop, but if I compare this adaptor to the digital squeeze the camera does, I would prefer the digital squeeze.
So that leads me to question 2 (please, write back on any thoughts) If I was to go to film with my project, then yes, I would shoot using the anamorphic adaptor with the camera settings at 4:3. The anamorphic adaptor would then squeeze the image with the glass.
HOWEVER, if my project is to go to TV and the client wants 16:9. I say shoot it with the digital squeeze and let Final Cut Pro or another editing software unsqueeze the image. Sure, your sacrificing that one extra chip for the digital squeeze, but using the Leica lens all by itself is great....after all, its a sharp lens. No question about that. I can still use my matte box with the 85mm step down ring and use my array of filters....
I just save the anamorphic adaptor for another day.
