Anamorphic Adapter

I shot a project 24P Advanced with an Anamorphic Adapter attached. I'm viewing the footage on my Sony PVM-14L5/1 14" Color Multiformat Monitor as I batch capture it in Final Cut Pro 5, with my custom 24P Advanced Pulldown removal setting with the Anamorphic button checked. On the monitor I have 16:9 button set to On. The image looks sharp but distorted. Is this a characteristic of the combination of the Adapter and Wide Angle lens settings on the DVX100A? All the vertical plane lines on either side of the frame look extremely bent.

I appreciate your help.

The Best,
Seth

barrel distortion??? not your fault i get the same thing. one reason why i stopped using it. do you have any effect in FCP to correct it? i have premiere and my version doesn't, but i can export it out and correct it in a graphics program. a little too much work IMHO. what do you mean by "wide angle lens settings"???

Thanks for sharing. Now I know I'm not losing my mind and my eyes.
By "wide angle lens settings" I just meant when the lens is all the way out to it's farthest point. Zoom setting 0 or 100, whichever is widest.

geez don't throw me like that...i thought your camera had a feature mine didn't. a built in wide angle lens :)

sometimes though, depending on how you shoot, the distortion lies outside the "action safe" area.

that's funny..

yeah, I'm finding that the distortion is different in different places, even though the focal length doesn't change.. so the anamorphic adapter is really only dependable in landscape range.. my eyes get used to it, but I bet if I was shooting a feature with actors, I'd be freaked out right now..

Yeah. I remember that chart from the DVX100Users Book. But I thought that was only about the sharpness of the picture. I didn't realize that it also meant there was a "Barrel Effect."

I'll know not to use the Anamorphic Adapter in close quarters with any actors.

I appreciate the link.
