Anamorphic Adapter Guide - test shots

I've been learning so much about the anamorphic adapter since working on this guide -- things I thought I knew, now I know a whole lot more about!  It's amazing -- now I want to go re-shoot that film transfer test I did, because I *know* it could be even better!

Anyway, part of the reason I started to write the guide is because I know there are people who just pick up the adapter and try to shoot with it, and get disappointing results.  So here's what you'd get if you did that -- just shot, without working around the anamorphic's restrictions:

WithoutGuide.JPG

(shot at Z99, using autofocus)

Then I implemented the techniques in the guide, and this is the result:

WithGuide.JPG

(also Z99, using the guide recommendations for focal point and f-stop, and also shows that you can get perfectly acceptable focus even at full telephoto if you are careful setting up the shot).

It's a little work, but I'd say the results are worth it, wouldn't you?

"With great resolution, comes great responsibility."

I'm doing some more resolution chart shots this afternoon with the DVX100A, also expanding the focus chart for the 100A's extended focus range, and then the guide will be ready to go...

(I didn't know where to post this, I figured "screen grabs" was probably the wrong forum, but they *are* screen grabs, so...)

Ah! Yes! Dope that I am, I now have picked up on the under-the-radar-flying situation. Yes, understood now... that should all be taken care of tomorrow - thanks!

Yeah! An animorphic adaptor guide! :D

My office just got the animorphic guide and DVX100A, so I've been trying to get to know them. The animorphic adaptor's been giving me all sorts of headaches...but I'm sure it won't after I know how to use it correctly!

Thanks Barry!

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide - test shots

Maybe I missed somthing or I am not listening good like my wife says, but if you are using the adpater, shouldn't those test shots you just did be wider? It looks as though I am still seeing the standard screen size of DV with out the anamophic size. Or was this stright of the cam and not streched yet?

Straight out of the cam and not stretched.

Re: Anamorphic Adapter Guide - test shots

I guess they are talking about the one Barry is putting together.

Anyway, that is really cool.

All the best

Fidel.

Hey Barry,
Where will you post your anouncement of the completion of your AA guide?

::)
