An idea I want to bring to life....

Hi,

I've been coming up with a reality show that I would like to film a couple of mock episodes for, but I want it to look as close as the quality we see on tv. I have one DVX 100b that I shoot in squeeze mode 24pa. It's obvious that I have to shoot with another camera for the table conversations. Is there any "cheap camcorders" out there that I can use for the second camera, that would be able to somehow match the footage for the DVX? Thanks!!!

Have you considered a camera such as the canon hv30 or hv40?
You can pick one up for about $800.
That camera is unbelievable and I believe you will be able to do everything that you need it to. It will shoot in 24p to match the DVX footage. The only real issue I see is that the Canon hv's shoot in HD so you would have to either upres your DVX footage to 720p, or if it makes more sense, downres the hv footage to match the resolution of the DVX. Though not outfitted with the same manual user controls as the dvx and other prosumer cameras (i.e. manual focus ring), it will certainly be able to get the job done as a second camera. In fact I am thinking about picking up an hv40 to use as a second camera to get the shots in HD that are simply impossible to get when using my dvx100b andromeda because it is tethered to a laptop.

Hope that at least gives you somewhere to start!
Good luck! Make sure to post a link if you ever decide to post what you are working on up!

I actually use my capture camera as a secondary camera. They match very nicely, and the camera was only $300! You might want to look at a native 16:9 SD camera because it's cheaper, and if the show will be for broadcast, you may not need to deliver it in HD or even widescreen depending on the channel. You could try to rent another DVX, but it would be better to own a secondary. My capture camera comes in handy, especially with its 30x optical zoom.
