Hello all
This is my first post on here - amazing forum.
I am using a Firestore FS100 with my HVX200. I got it second-hand, and have been really pleased with it. I upgraded the firmware, and the slo-mo universe was mine to play in.
Then I did a couple of long days shooting corporate footage, and, while about to transfer the files, I made the fatal mistake of plugging in the firewire card while the unit was plugged in to the mains. Pop - smoke emitted, panic ensued. You don't want to lose corporate files, it makes you mainly dead.
Unsurprisingly, after having a jolt like that, the unit no longer wanted to talk to my computer through the computer out, but it did at least let me dub the footage out to tape on the camera, so i could get the job done.
After the dust settled i emailed Focus and had absolutely no reply from them about sorting out a repair. If you are in Europe, don't bother emailing the euro email, probably best to send an email to the US and hope it filters down...anyway, I decided to try and use the FS-100 as a normal deck device. No dice, Premiere Pro didn't like it.
Bummer.
My last thing to try was OnLocation, which ships with Premiere Pro 3. Pleasingly, it actually works, and I at least can partly use my frazzed unit!!
The best bit of advice is "Don't plug a Firestore into a PC/MAC while it's feeding off 15volts of electricty", followed closely by "Don't mess with files/ingest when you're sleep-depped..."
Hope this is of help to someone/anyone...
