An article on backing up SxS cards

Thats a nice article w/ photos by Alister Chapman - I'm going to add that link to our site. I'm hoping SONY Pro USA will start updating their website with more information. I usually research the UK sites for updates.

Great article. The EX-1 really is simple to backup but you need to be careful to not touch anything.

If you copy the whole BPAV you'll be fine. But if you just need selected clips (for example you recorded more stuff to an SxS card and don't want two copies of files you've already transferred or you just want to copy the clips marked OK) XDCam Clip Browser is the way to go. It's as simple as dragging and dropping but it MUST be done in Clip Browser.

Clip browser creates the file/folder structure that allows it to work later on down the line after your files have been erased off your memory cards.

I name an empty folder based on the scene I am working on and copy the whole BPAV folder in there via USB. Next I use the Transfer program and select the clips to import. During this process, I title the clips appropriately (give them the scene name). This process creates easily identifiable .MOV files which can be played using Quicktime. Then I simply import them into Final Cut Pro. I also backup the BPAV folders onto a different (external) HDD.

The process works perfectly for me.
