Alejandro González Iñárritu
"Three interconnected stories about the different strata of life in Mexico City all resolve with a fatal car accident."
I finally got to see this just this evening and loved it. I am a big fan of Iñárritu and the body of work he is creating. I was entranced and depressed watching this. It plays out in a similar mood as 21 Grams but has more life, more of a world that isn't as claustrophobic as 21 Grams.
i dont usually watch subtitled films as I like to listen and watch and not READ a film but I found myself easily enjoying this. Wonderfully shot with tons of Cinema Verite' and intense performances.
The cinematography style was crushed blacks and color treated for a real cold look. In fact, in a few scenes they are in a grocery store with all natural (natural fluourecents) and everything is green (yes, we know techically why) which is what makes me like it even more. It worked for me.
Lots of blow outs and hot spots that were no doubt intentional that also work well. This is not a happy ending and boils down to reality (at the bad end of the spectrum) that Im sure most of us can relate to.
Emilio Echevarría gives a quiet performance until he shows his stuff when confessing his mistake and love to his daughter. I was feeling the pain.
I have no idea who Goya Toledo is but holy crap not only can she act but is so smoking hot I hurt myslef watching her.
Can you say "Smoookkkkiiinnnnn?"
We all are looking for a story that we can tell and this is another example of a story we can do within our means. I highly suggest you run out and see this.
