Americans on the board...

Re: Americans on the board...

Thanks for your comments folks. I still slightly disagree, but I knew when I signed the selective service papers there was a chance, be it ever so slim, that I might be called and the soldiers who sign up for service know about IRR when they sign. It's just a fact of life with the military.

Again, thanks for your input.

Scott

Re: Americans on the board...

Yeah, but you're legally required to sign up for Selective Service. You're not legally required to volunteer for the military.

Re: Americans on the board...

WOW.
:o
It took me at least 2 hours to read this whole thread. And after doing so I further realize that while I may be able to grasp most concepts and think logically, there is a hell of a lot of stuff I don't 'know.' Thanks to everyone for making it a more informative read than stroking a teenager's video ego.

I am routinely stunned by the weirdness that is the 'wacko liberal.' But this is truly the first time I have witnessed (albeit online) an instance where the liberals were not the OVERWHELMING majority, and have taken a very different stance in their position. Tony_H's repeated statements that he is 'normal' and not an 'elitist snob' is a complete flop from the position I've witnessed most liberals take. Usually they are the ones to come heavy from the 'I'm-the-intellectual-cause-I'm-still-clinging-to-my-college-aged-liberal-brainwashing' side, and accuse anyone with an opposing (often more conservative) view as being a narrow-minded, blue-collar redneck Neanderthal. Some are still 'in' college, going from being life-long students to socialist-propaganda-spouting assistant professors in useless fields. Not being the majority probably doesn't mean much, cause people who ***** and complain tend to ***** and complain. And bitching is probably at least 60% of total internet content. I see these stupid arguments all the time, but it's nice to see that the 'vast, right-wing conspiracy' has totally pointed out how completely uninformed, close-minded, ridiculously naive and even wrong some liberals are in their political position on a given thing, even though they will probably never understand or accept it themselves. They even admit it their close-minded ways, and don't care. That is not only pathetic, but it is really sad. These people don't vote rationally, they vote emotionally. Yeah, I may lean more towards the conservative side, but I don't swallow everything the GOP spouts.

And I'm a 'normal' guy too. I'm from an even infinitely smaller rural town than Springfield, Ohio. I'm mostly unemployed,(freelance) have lots of debt, am not very well read, and also get most of my political news and knowledge from various readily available sources such as TV, newspapers and the internet. It's all about what your attitude is, what you can identify as fact, and what you choose to believe after examining those facts. This is very hard to do in this day and age, out of fear of some kind of ulterior motive or influence and whatever slant the author of the work may be presenting. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes not, but rarely do we get the whole truth. The only thing you can't seem to discredit is live TV. No one doubts Sept. 11th happened. There's buildings missing to prove it. We often get the 'what’s,' but the 'why's' are often up to interpretation.

So.......1984 is the answer. That'd get all the whiners to shut up, wouldn't it? You say you want true equality and don't like the patriot act, well then, everybody gets a camera, 24/7. That way you could finally KNOW that the election was rigged or that everything Michael Moore has to say is absolutely the truth, cause Bush along with everybody else would be the star of the ultimate 'reality' TV experience, broadcast for the world to see without interruption.

I don't know where everyone's originally from, or if Tony_H is originally from Springfield, OH, but that area of western Ohio seems to be a VERY liberal area. Especially in Yellow Springs, Ohio, just a few miles down Route 68 from Springfield. So maybe in that kind of sheltered environment, it's a lot harder to have an open mind and instead look at everything as the glass is half empty... and it's cracked, and you chipped your tooth on it, and cut your lip....

Having recently spent about a month in Springfield myself, while I was the first AC on an independent feature, (which was shot with the SDX-900, and looked damn good!) I can say without a doubt it is the shittiest place I've ever been in my life! Like, "..didn't I just see that guy doing something really stupid and getting arrested on 'COPS' last night" shitty. It kinda feels like every other house is a meth lab. Shirts are completely optional for males in that town. And the people are genuinely ugly. Like elephant-man ugly. The routine services and behaviors we all take for granted are at best a piss-poor attempt and incomplete/lousy/completely-****ing-wrong, if not oddly and/or creepily executed in that town. Just the most over-the-top, almost cartoon surrealism that is the stupid white-trash, jackass, Jerry-Springer-guest worthless scumbag stereotype was personified daily by the tools inhabiting Springfield. What a ****ing dump.

Anyway, this ended up being a lot longer than I thought and really didn't have much to add, but I felt a warning was in order to anyone traveling near Springfield. Personally, I think I'm voting for General Zod.

Re: Americans on the board...

yep, not a very liberal community.. unlike where i live .. where the conservatives are the apparent minority..try living in Madison WI .. .. this place is so silly, the governor actually tried to grant politcal amnesty to the Dixie Chicks here and get them to change thier name to the "Dairyland Chicks" after they attacked Bush... declaring Madison to be the politcal and social "assylum" for all people..

...good grief ::)

He should have declared it the mosquito infested land between three lakes. I used to spend summers in Madison as a child.

Re: Americans on the board...

I’m a “liberal” in the Locke/Hobbes/Mill sense of the word. I find the labels to be meaningless in today’s parlance.

Maximum individual liberty. Personal responsibility. These are my guiding tenets.

I am having the warrant issued for your arrest right now.  Can you tell me your home address?  And be truthful, last weekend our helicopter landed in the wrong yard, chipped its black paint, and we ended up arresting a family of six who were innocent (and it took hours to trump up some charges on them....) :)

Hmm..

Disclaimer: - I am Australian, I don't get it, aren't "Maximum individual liberty and personal responsibility" mutually exclusive concepts from the Democrats ideology?

I don't believe I referred to any party affiliation either for myself or for those concepts.

Re: Americans on the board...

Hey Chucks.. i know that is the perceptiuon that they have created through spin...

Democrats of yesterday are not the democrats of today..Democrats under LBJ created the great society wherein they subsidized poor folks to have more children etc... etc.. This is when things started going south.. (excuse the pun) Actualy things went south with FDR and his RAW deal.. Alger Hiss.. thats all i need to say..

Whats funny is.. the Democrats i would say control 80% of the black vote.. Wherein it was the republican ideals that freed slaves.. The Republican north was responsible for that. The Democratic south shunned these ideals and fought for slavery.. Its not really that cut and dry.. alot of that is revisionist history.. (Rev. war wasnt over slavery).

Every where we turn some socialist Democrat has a governmental solution to a societal issue.. Whereas  in general the perception of a Republican is hands off most societal issue.. Although there are exceptions to these rules.. It seems that this is the general belief.

Not condoning either party..But like Kerry is a Billionare.. Although the perception is hes for the poor.. Whereas the Bush's are paupers in comparison..

Re: Americans on the board...

Thanks for your love, Fred. Somebody has to keep some balance here and I'm just the man to do it.

Here's my definitions of the two factions:

Conservatives: They want to use their money to buy their government officials so they get laws which will allow them to build a chemical plant right next to where your kids go school .

Liberals: They want to tax you so they get money to get welfare/crack addicts into programs in the Middle East to them get off drugs and learn how to blow up your kids school.

How's that for some extreme ideas? ;)

Re: Americans on the board...

i dont follow the Democrat vs. Republican theme..Its a faint.. It dont really matter.. they are aligned mostly for the real issues.. World trade .. etc.. They tell you they are for or against abortion or other social issues.. and really have no ability to change it..

Banks make Govt's .. Govt's dont make banks.. We borrow our money from private banking institutons .. (Federal Reserve) as Federal as Federal express.. We are bankrupt and owe our souls to these bankers...

Let me give an example of  how countries are assimilated and enslaved for their existence..

World Bank goes to Nigeria.. promises Billions of Dollars of infrastructure improvements.. Then Nigeria signs a note. Bingo.. They will never pay htis off..With inflationary mechanisms and taxation its somewhat likened to trying to break the casinos.. bank.. the odds are it wont ever happen..

We pay taxes to the IRS to cover the note our govt. has borrowed to keep our country afloat.. On I ramble.. goes nowhere.. so much info such little time..

great slogan's for the campaign:

-"General Zod does NOT take orders-he gives them!!"
-"Come to me, Superman(or rival opponent)!!!! Kneel before ZOD!!!!"

I wonder how things would be for Australia, under Lex Luthor's rule. :P
