Re: Americans on the board...

Yes. The 4th of July. Our Independence from the King and after all of that England is our closest ally. I wonder how many people realize the significance of this Holiday or is it merely for fireworks and barbeques?

Re: Americans on the board...

You guys set off FIREWORKS?? Sweet! :) So do I! small world!

We've got the big coconut shells! They fly up like 100 feet, or if you're drunk they make cool mushroom explosions in the street. :)

HAPPY 4TH EVERYONE!!!

Re: Americans on the board...

While I'm Canadian, I have a great tradition on the fourth of July.  My father, little brother and I watch "Independence Day".  Every year!  What started out when I was about 11, on a little old TV off of a VHS, has this year gotten WAYY better...what with our 51" HDTV, 5.1 surround set-up, and a brand-spankin new DVD copy!

Regardless of what anyone may say, that's the kind of movie I want to make deep down!

To all of our American DVXusers, Happy 4th!

Re: Americans on the board...

hahah oh come on, it's *awesome*!

I mean it's not like it changes your world or anything, but it's so fun!

Re: Americans on the board...

Yes, today we declare our Independence from work and worship the fireworks god.

Seriously though, why do we americans feel the need to celebrate every historical event that went in our favor? If other countries did that they would probably have a holiday once a week.

It's America's birthday man. Why would we not celebrate that?

Re: Americans on the board...

Well, for one thing, I'm not a big fan of the government and there was a country here long before independence day :P

Bah humbug

Re: Americans on the board...

:o

There was lan here but there was NO country. This is a great holiday for America. Independence. Free. Proud.

:)

Re: Americans on the board...

Well, yes. If a country can't celebrate its founding, then what can it celebrate?

Re: Americans on the board...

Hmm... maybe I'm not too good with history, but I don't remember any quotes from July 4th like:

"From this day forward, we will be known as the United States and the land we live on is now a country for the first time ever!"

The 4th of July is to celebrate the declaration of independence, not freedom in general or our birthday. With the UK being such a good ally, you'd think that they might be a little bitter with us making such a fuss about their defeat to this day. :D

Anyway, my point is that every week or two in this country there's some stupid holiday like memorial day, independence day, presidents day, thanksgiving, flag day, and columbus day. It's like they want us to be nationalistic or something. Not to mention all the stupid made-up holidays like valentine's day and sweetest day and all the religious days too. Halloween is the only holiday I like.

Re: Americans on the board...

I wonder how many Americans truly understand the root causes of the Revolutionary War? As I understand it, the founding fathers, (freemasons all, slave owners and smugglers mostly) were upset about unfair taxes on their import/export goods. The taxes were indeed unfair, an effort by the British to regain the upper hand in the shipping trade. Today if you engage in a tax protest, the Gov. will slap you in jail and take your home. Freedom for whom? The rich and powerful.

As for any post revolutionary bitterness from the British, many Brits secretly supported the Rebels, because they had a financial interest in American based shipping, just as many colonists opposed the Revolution, to protect their money. A well placed bribe (donated by the French, always willing to aid any insult to the British) to a British Admiral ended the war in a timely fashion. Hmmm, bribes, traitors, scandals, and the meddling French, things haven't changed much have they?

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss."

Re: Americans on the board...

Yes. The root of it all.

The colonist had helped the British in the French and Indian War and after this war the Parliament wanted to enact a tax on the colonists; the colonists didnt feel as if they oughta pay a tax not only for helping the British defeat the French but beacuse they had no voice in Parliament. Remember this:

"Taxation without representation"?

The Americans wanted the same democratic rights as the English but England just wanted to exploit the colonies in any way they could; which of course were in taxes among other things.

It is somewhat ironic that we can get in some huge trouble of we 'challenge' the government in this realm and who knows, perhaps one day we will all get sick of it. In the meantime we all have an opportunity to become Rich. Or, we can ***** and moan and complain about how unfair life is and how much we hate the government.

Its not perfect but theres no other country Id rather be and in saying its not perfect just means we cant settle. Its only been a couple hundred years. Look at the countries that have been around FOREVER and still run ass backwards.

Damn right we celebrate our Independence from England and our freedom as a country. And Tony_H, don't be so cynical. Tis a great motherfucking country. The current administration might suck but the beauty is that they only have a chance at 8 years NOT indefinate. Administrations come and go and not all are great and not all are bad.

Yeah, but there's better countries like Canada (not geographicallly) and Australia and the Netherlands. Sorry buddy, I'm not cynical I'm just an anarchist and I think this country is going to have a shorter than average life span. Don't get me wrong I love the people and the land of this country, but I hate the government and the ruling class. I don't want to get into a big political discussion, so I'll just leave it at this:

"Thank you for the toilet paper
But your flag is meaningless to me
Look around, we're all people
Who needs countries anyway?"

No ****, with people like you polluting our country with such negative filth, always bitching about everything, and yet not lifting a finger to make it a better place.

What ruling class? One of the principle core beliefs that separated the United States from most countries around the world was the absence of an established “ruling class”. Speaking of the ruling class, which of course you profess to hate, doesn’t your so-called “better countries” still owe allegiance to monarchies? The last time I check, Canada and Australia still recognize the British Monarch as sovereign and the Netherlands is still a Constitutional Monarchy. So, how does it feel being an anarchist hating a country that doesn’t have a ruling class and yet supporting countries that do? An anarchist oxymoron.

The moment you started typing it became political. This was a well-intentioned thread of Americans wishing each other a Happy Fourth of July and you intentionally tried to piss on their parade.

Absolutely pathetic!!!

Either you’re part of the solution or part of the problem.

What have you done to make this country a better place (for EVERYONE)?
