America the Beautiful

did america the beautiful have 5.1 surround sound? i was wondering since you had in in theaters. can an indie film with only 2.0 sound be projected in a theater? if so how does it sound?

Hey Portland,

"America the Beautiful," only had a 2 channel stereo mix and that definitely projects in a theater. It sounded fine. We didn't have the type of audio track that needed a 5.1 mix.

Sorry I haven't been around lately. I'm getting ready to visit 60 cities in the next 75 days with the film. The routine will be a screening at 7pm each night, then at 6am I fly to the next city. Very exhausting.

The film is also screening at the Berlin Film Festival on February 9th at 9:30am. I have a foreign sales rep that thinks we're going to do pretty good international business. I've already had requests to come to Vienna, Austria--Italy and Switzerland.

On top of that, I'm in the process of writing a book about the making of the film. A lot of people in the industry won't be happy about this book, but the public will dig it I think.

I have 30 interviews lined up in the next 30 days with newspapers and local networks across the country. That's exhausting as well, but very necessary.

And finally we're going to get a nationwide release in Canada in March and April. It will be a platform release going to 30 cities, so I'll be spending a ton of time in Canada as well.

How are things going with you my friend? Hope the DVX community is well.

All is well Thanks Daryl!

It's great to hear from you!

Sounds like you are getting traction and all is going well.

I watched this the other day and it reminded me of you!

(Thanks to Zak Forsman for the link!)

Let me know if you will be coming to the Bay Area.

It would be great to see your film and say hello!

Keep us up to date!

I think I can safely say we all are rooting for you!

Would love to see this on the big screen. Will the Canadian dates be listed on your website?

I will be in the Bay area in February, so I'll let you know the dates. And we're working out the Canadian dates right now. We'll be in every major city in Canada in April. It will be posted on the website.

Wednesday I leave for Charlotte, NC and it will be the beginning of a 60 city university tour, which will end at the end of March.

Hey Chip, which magazine article did you read about the tour?

I hope everyone is well and let's have a great 2009.

Darryl:

Excellent summary of your documentary, I really enjoyed reading it! I went on your website as well and I'm really looking forward to seeing your film when it comes out.

The comment about being black and not having your documentary made or that people will watch it... well, I don't know what to say except that the person who said it is an idiot. Black, white, Asian or Hispanic... does it limit us in making a great film? If someone told me a white guy like myself couldn't make a great film about a black person, I'd be pretty offended. We all have a voice, opinion and a way we see the world, that's really all that matters when it comes to making a film. I'm sorry you have to hear such crappy things too... people are just too narrow-minded and their opinions are the same.

I live in Toronto... tell me when you are coming here (I'm guessing maybe to University of Toronto or Ryerson, which has the big film program) and I will make a point of seeing you. I'd love to meet up with you and just talk film (especially about yours).

All the best,
Dale

D, how's the tour going? Got a pic for you that was taken today in Vegas. This is your girl PH and her friend TR. She is by the door with the striped towel and TR is in the green shirt.

This film looks like an important doc for everyone to see. Thanks for sharing all the info on your marketing strategy too. Can't wait to hear more about your film and all the hard work you're doing.
