Hey, its time for a new editing system (my old one has gone kuhflooey) and I've decided to give AMD another go. The AMD in this computer (non editing) has been a champ and i used to edit on it.

Wich of these two would be better?

Athalon 64 X2
Opteron 1214 Santa Ana

No "Why dont you jsut get Intel?" please, or stuff like that, I dont want to drop the cash for intel, and I've had better experance with the AMD systems I've had.

Thanks,
Dory

I love AMD chips. Much cheaper, and still good quality.

I'd go with the Athlon. I didn't have time to research that particular CPU, but I know Opterons typically require registered memory, which is much more expensive. Plus your upgrade options down the road are often fewer.

I'm using an AMD Athlon X2 6400+ (dual core 3.2ghz) on my video editing box, and I love it. My rendering is actually bottlenecked by my hard drive's ability to store the data, not the CPU power... Guess it's time for RAID...again...
